hild is laying on a float in the middle of the pool. The third child is at the far right of the pool and begins splashing as well. The child on the float in the middle of the pool notices that when both of her friends are splashing on opposite sides of the pool, she is raised much higher on her float as the waves lift her up. What phenomenon is the child in the middle of the pool experiencing?
A) Doppler effect
B) Seismic impact
C) Destructive interference
D) Constructive interference

The answer is; D

When both kids splash at both ends of the pool, the waves formed from the different direction travel and meet in the middle of the pool (since they are traveling with the same speed). When the waves meet, they interact and form constructive waves. This means that when a crest meets a crest, the height doubles. This also occurs for the troughs. Therefore the sizes of the waves at the middle are twice the individual waves.

A chemist measures the energy change ?H during the following reaction: 2HgO (s) ?2Hg (l) +O2 (g) =?H182.kJ Use the information t
Elan Coil [88]

Answer:

A. endothermic.

A. Yes, absorbed.

Explanation:

Let's consider the following thermochemical equation.

2 HgO(s) ⇒ 2 Hg(l) + O₂(g)  ΔH = 182 kJ

The enthalpy of the reaction is positive (ΔH > 0), which means that the reaction is endothermic.

182 kJ are absorbed when 2 moles of HgO react (molar mass 216.59 g/mol). The heat absorbed when 72.8 g of HgO react is:

72.8g.\frac{1mol}{216.59g} .\frac{182kJ}{2mol} =30.6kJ/mol

A scientist put red blood cells in water that contained salt. Over time, the red blood cells burst. What is most likely true?
Tamiku [17]

Answer: There was a lower concentration of salt in the water than in the cells.

Explanation:

Osmosis is a process in which the solvent flow from a solution of low concentration to a solution of high concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.

When the red blood cells are put in water that contained salt and the red blood cells burst after some time.

This means the solvent has moved from outside to inside the cell and this is possible only when the concentration of solute is high inside the cell than outside. That means the solution has low concentration of solute as compared to the cell and was a hypotonic solution.

Consider 100.0 g samples of two different compounds consisting only of carbon and oxygen. One compound contains 27.2 g of carbon
Pani-rosa [81]

<u>Answer:</u> The ratio of carbon in both the compounds is 1 : 2

<u>Explanation:</u>

Law of multiple proportions states that when two elements combine to form two or more compounds in more than one proportion. The mass of one element that combine with a given mass of the other element are present in the ratios of small whole number. For Example: Cu_2O\text{ and }CuO

  • <u>For Sample 1:</u>

Total mass of sample = 100 g

Mass of carbon = 27.2 g

Mass of oxygen = (100 - 27.7) = 72.8 g

To formulate the formula of the compound, we need to follow some steps:

  • <u>Step 1:</u> Converting the given masses into moles.

Moles of Carbon =\frac{\text{Given mass of Carbon}}{\text{Molar mass of Carbon}}=\frac{27.2g}{12g/mole}=2.26moles

Moles of Oxygen = \frac{\text{Given mass of oxygen}}{\text{Molar mass of oxygen}}=\frac{72.8g}{16g/mole}=4.55moles

  • <u>Step 2:</u> Calculating the mole ratio of the given elements.

For the mole ratio, we divide each value of the moles by the smallest number of moles calculated which is 2.26 moles.

For Carbon = \frac{2.26}{2.26}=1

For Oxygen  = \frac{4.55}{2.26}=2.01\approx 2

  • <u>Step 3:</u> Taking the mole ratio as their subscripts.

The ratio of C : O = 1 : 2

Hence, the formula for sample 1 is CO_2

  • <u>For Sample 2:</u>

Total mass of sample = 100 g

Mass of carbon = 42.9 g

Mass of oxygen = (100 - 42.9) = 57.1 g

To formulate the formula of the compound, we need to follow some steps:

  • <u>Step 1:</u> Converting the given masses into moles.

Moles of Carbon =\frac{\text{Given mass of Carbon}}{\text{Molar mass of Carbon}}=\frac{42.9g}{12g/mole}=3.57moles

Moles of Oxygen = \frac{\text{Given mass of oxygen}}{\text{Molar mass of oxygen}}=\frac{57.1g}{16g/mole}=3.57moles

  • <u>Step 2:</u> Calculating the mole ratio of the given elements.

For the mole ratio, we divide each value of the moles by the smallest number of moles calculated which is 3.57 moles.

For Carbon = \frac{3.57}{3.57}=1

For Oxygen  = \frac{3.57}{3.57}=1

<u>Step 3:</u> Taking the mole ratio as their subscripts.

The ratio of C : O = 1 : 1

Hence, the formula for sample 1 is CO

In the given samples, we need to fix the ratio of oxygen atoms.

So, in sample one, the atom ratio of oxygen and carbon is 2 : 1.

Thus, for 1 atom of oxygen, the atoms of carbon required will be = \frac{1}{2}\times 1=\frac{1}{2}

Now, taking the ratio of carbon atoms in both the samples, we get:

C_1:C_2=\frac{1}{2}:1=1:2

Hence, the ratio of carbon in both the compounds is 1 : 2

How many moles of hydrogen atoms are there in one mole of C6H12O2
zvonat [6]

In 1 molecule of the compound C₆H₁₂O₂ there are 12 moles of hydrogen atoms

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

Given

C₆H₁₂O₂ compound

Required

moles of Hydrogen

Solution

In a compound, there is a mole ratio of the constituent elements.

The empirical formula is the smallest comparison of atoms of compound forming elements.

A molecular formula is a formula that shows the number of atomic elements that make up a compound.

In the C₆H₁₂O₂ compound, there are 3 forming elements: C, H and O

The number of each element is indicated by its subscript

C: 6 moles

H = 12 moles

O = 2 moles
