Okay, so the total cookies is given by 22 cookies (the ones given to the students) plus 27 cookies (the ones left over) Therefore there were 49 cookies in total. Subtract the 24 cookies from the first batch, and you have 25 cookies remaining, which is the total from the second batch.

25 cookies.

24 cookies in the first batch
Unknown in the second, let's call it "x".
The total amount of cookies is the amount of cookies eaten by students (22) as well as the amount left (27).
We can set these equivalent to one another:
24+x=22+27
24+x=49
subtract 24 from both sides
24+x=49
-24     -24
x=25
So, there were 25 cookies in the second batch.

A grocery store bought some mangoes at a rate of 5 for a dollar. They were separated into two stacks, one of which was sold at a
Alexus [3.1K]

Answer:

The ratio of the number of mangoes in the $3 stack to those in the $6 stack is 1 : 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of mangoes bought by the grocery store be n. Also let the number of mango sold for $3 in one stack be x and the number of mango sold for $6 in the second stack be y.

Therefore:

x + y = z                                  (1)

Also, the mangoes was sold at break even price, that is the cost of the mango and the price it was sold for was the same. Therefore:

Cost of buying = Price it was sold for

The cost of the mango = 5z and the price it was sold for = 3x + 6y

3x + 6y = 5z                            (2)

Substituting z = x + y in equation 1

3x + 6y = 5(x + y)

3x + 6y = 5x + 5y

6y - 5y = 5x - 3x

y = 2x

x / y = 1/ 2 = 1 : 2

The ratio of the number of mangoes in the $3 stack to those in the $6 stack is 1 : 2

The 3rd term of a geometric sequence is -1/3 and the 8th term is 81. what is the 11th term?
shepuryov [24]

Answer: t_{11}=-2187

Step-by-step explanation:

t_{3}=-1/3

That is :

ar^{2} = -1/3 ................. equation 1

Also

t_{8}=81

that is

ar^{7}=81 ................. equation 2

divide equation 2 by equation 1 , that is

\frac{ar^{7}}{ar^{2}} = 81 / -1/3

r^{5}= 81 x -3/1

r^{5}= -243

find the fifth root of both sides

r = -3

substitute r = -3 , into equation 1 to find a , that is

a(-3^{2})= -1/3

9a = -1/3

multiply through by 3

27a = -1

a =- 1/27

To find the 11th term , the formula for the 11th term is given as :

t_{11}=ar^{10}

t_{11}= -1/27(-3^{10})

t_{11}=-2187

arlik [135]

Answer:

A public communications director would make $1,196,800 over a period of 20 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

The median salary of an engineer is $73,400 per year.

Piper has researched that a public communications director makes $13,560 less than this. (so we need to take this amount from the salary of an engineer)

Therefore, we would have that a public communications director would make

73,400 - 13,560 = $59, 840 per year

Now, the problem asks us how much a public communications director will make over a period of <u>20 years</u>, thus, we have to multiply the amount she will get per year by 20.

Thus, over 20 years she would make: <u>59,840 x 20</u> = $1,196,800
