A 90kg woman and a 60kg boy are standing at rest on a frictionless frozen lake. The boy pushes the woman with a 40N horizontal f
uranmaximum [27]

Answer:

The acceleration of the woman is 0.44 m/s²

Explanation:

Given;

mass of the woman, m₁ = 90 kg

mass of the boy, m₂ = 60 kg

The force applied by the boy, f₂ = 40 N

The net horizontal force on the woman = 40 N

Apply Newton's second law of motion to determine the acceleration of the woman;

f = ma

a = f / m

a = 40 / 90

a = 0.44 m/s²

Therefore, the acceleration of the woman is 0.44 m/s²

A heavy turntable, used for rotating large objects, is a solid cylindrical wheel that can rotate about its central axle with neg
scoundrel [369]

Answer:

a) I = 113.014\,kg\cdot m^{2}, b) m = 2075.556\,kg

Explanation:

a) The turntable has the following physical model by using Newton's laws:

F \cdot R = I \cdot \alpha

The moment of inertia is:

I = \frac{F\cdot R}{\alpha}

I = \frac{(300\,N)\cdot(0.33\,m)}{0.876\,\frac{rad}{s^{2}} }

I = 113.014\,kg\cdot m^{2}

b) The moment of inertia for a solid cylinder:

I = \frac{1}{2}\cdot m \cdot R^{2}

The mass of the turntable is:

m = \frac{2 \cdot I}{R^{2}}

m = \frac{(2)\cdot (113.014\,kg\cdot m^{2})}{(0.33\,m)^{2}}

m = 2075.556\,kg

From the window of a building, a ball is tossed from a height y0 above the ground with an initial velocity of 8.10 m/s and angle
GarryVolchara [31]

Answer:

Part a)

y = 88.5 m

Part b)

v_x = 7.7 m/s

v_y = 2.5 m/s

Part c)

equation of position in x direction is given as

x = v_x t

equation of position in y direction is given as

y = v_y t + \frac{1}{2}gt^2

Part d)

x = 30.8 m

Part e)

H = 88.5 m

Part f)

t = 1.2 s

Explanation:

As we know that ball is projected with speed

v = 8.10 m/s at an angle 18 degree below the horizontal

so we will have

v_x = 8.10 cos18

v_x = 7.7 m/s

v_y = 8.10 sin18

v_y = 2.5 m/s

Part a)

Since it took t =4 s to reach the ground

so its initial y coordinate is given as

y = v_y t + \frac{1}{2}a_y t^2

y = 2.5(4) + \frac{1}{2}(9.81)(4^2)

y = 88.5 m

Part b)

components of the velocity is given as

v_x = 8.10 cos18

v_x = 7.7 m/s

v_y = 8.10 sin18

v_y = 2.5 m/s

Part c)

equation of position in x direction is given as

x = v_x t

equation of position in y direction is given as

y = v_y t + \frac{1}{2}gt^2

Part d)

distance where it will strike the floor is given as

x = v_x t

x = 7.7 \times 4

x = 30.8 m

Part e)

Height from which it is thrown is same as initial y coordinate of the ball

so it is given as

H = 88.5 m

Part f)

time taken by ball to reach 10 m below is given as

y = v_y t + \frac{1}{2}gt^2

10 = 2.5t + \frac{1}{2}(9.81) t^2

t = 1.2 s

A groove is provided in a saucer for placing teacup. why ?
Norma-Jean [14]
The circular groove is provided in a saucer for placing the tea only to prevent the cup from falling over in the case of sudden shocks. Other reason could be to provide support to the cup, or else the cup will fall when we change our direction due to Inertia of Direction.
