The cause of the grievance is that, after the peace treaty with France in 1763, the British kept standing army in America, and required the colonists to finance their stay. However, the colonists did not like the presence or see the needs of the standing army, hence, they asked for the standing army be removed, of which the British government, instead use the army to force people into submission.
