Six dogs remaining

If the average grade on an English class rose from 70 to 85 what is the approximate percent increase ?
mixer [17]

Answer: The approximate percent increase is 121.42857%. This is a rounded value. To get this, first you would need to find out which increased and in what direction. Of course, the 70 turned into an 85. So you can divide 85 by 70 and receive a number. Then in whatever form you found it, decimal, fraction, or even percent straight away, ensure the value is a percentage.

70 -> 85

85/70

About 1.21 [decimal]

1.21 x 100 = 121 [add the %]

121% [rounded]

NOTE: The negative outside the absolute value would be negative, so meaning that after you solve the inside absolute value equation, and you have negative outside, the number would be negative.

Please help me!!!!!!! :)
Lilit [14]
Hello there!

The answer is C.

I will explain to you how I came to this answer.

•First of all, I counted the turning points. There are two, so that means this polynomial function has THREE roots. (# of turning points+1=number of roots.)

•Next, look to see how many times the function crosses the x-axis. This is the number of REAL solutions. In this case, there is one point at which the f(x) is crossing the x-axis so there is one real solution.

•Since there is one real solution there has to be 2 imaginary roots. (Total # of solutions-real solutions=imaginary solutions)

NOTE: the turning points are where the increasing intervals change to decreasing and the decreasing change to increasing. The first derivative at these points is 0.

I hope this helps!
Best wishes~
