The way I did this problem was from a number line. I don't have a one: so I'll just make one.

So, what you do here is you take out 30% because those are NOT tornadoes fans. 10%     20%    30%    40%    50%    60%    70% .

It says that 40% are girls so... 10%   20%    30%.
