Answer:

<h3>           the first number is 5</h3><h3>           the first second is 6</h3><h3>           the first number is 1</h3>

Step-by-step explanation:

x   - first number

2x   - twice the first number

twice the first number exceeds the second number by 4 so:

2x-4   -the second number

y - the third number

the second number is equal to the sum of the first and third numbers:

2x-4 = x + y

x + y = 2x - 4

  -x        -x

y = x - 4       - the third number

the sum of three numbers:

x + 2x-4 + x-4 = 4x - 8

The sum of three numbers is 12 so:

4x - 8 = 12

   +8       +8

  4x = 20

  ÷4    ÷4

   x = 5

2x-4 = 2•5 - 4 = 6

x-4 = 5 - 4 = 1

Check:

5+1 = 6

2•5 = 10,  10-4 = 6

The heights of a maple tree and a cherry tree have a ratio of 5:2. If the maple tree grew 20 cm and 20 cm was cut off the top of
elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]
Let x be the <span>heights of a maple tree and y be the height of the cherry tree.
We know:
</span>\frac{x}{y} = \frac{5}{2}
<span>The new ratio is obtained like this:
</span>\frac{x+20}{y-20} = \frac{3}{1}.
From the above equation we get x= (y-20)\frac{3}{1} -20.
then \frac{ (y-20)\frac{3}{1} -20}{y} = \frac{5}{2}
Solving the above equation for y we get: y=160
So x=400
So the first tree is (400-160=240) more taller than cherry tree.

stira [4]

Answer:

The answer is 81

Step-by-step explanation:

All you have to do is create your long division chart with 648 inside and 8 on the outside 8 can not go into 6 but it can go into 64 so 8 goes on top of 4 you subtract 64 minus 64 becayse 8 times 8 is 64. Lastly you bring down the other 8 and 8 goes into 8 once so you put 1 on top. And so thats how you get 81.
