Answer: Both xylem and phloem are transport systems for vascular plants. For xylem it transports water and mineral salts from the roots to the stem and leaves. The xylem are mainly vessels, which are elongated tubes with thick walls called lignin. Phloem transports synthesized food substances from one part of the plant to the other. They are mainly consists of sieve tubes having a companion cell beside it.
