It'd be much harder to solve the problem "1/4 x 14" or "25% x 14" than just calculating "0.25 x 14". It'll also help you work on converting to different forms of numbers. Depending on the problem, you'll need to convert to a specific form, such as a problem that asks you to calculate the percent increase/decrease.
