Evan does 33 more push-ups than Lucy

let x be the number of push-ups Lucy does , then

Evan does 4x - 9 push-ups

The total number of push-ups is 61

hence x + 4x - 9 = 61 has to be solved

that is 5x - 9 = 61

add 9 to both sides

5x = 61 + 9 = 70

divide both sides by 5

x = \frac{70}{5} = 14

Lucy does 14 push-ups and Evan does 4x - 9 =(4 × 14) - 9 = 47

Thus Evan does 47 - 14 = 33 more push-ups than Lucy

Three consecutive integers have a sum of 48 find the integers?
zavuch27 [327]

The sum of three consecutive integers is three times the middle one: if we call the middle one x, the three numbers are

x-1,\ x,\ x+1

So, their sum is x-1+x+x+1 = 3x

Which is three times the middle one.

So, if the sum of three consecutive intergers is 48, the middle one must be 48/3 = 16.

So, the three numbers are 15, 16 and 17

8) The height of a building h varies directly as the length and inversely as the width, if h = 25m when l = 10m and w = 5m, find
shtirl [24]

Let h,l, and w represent the height, length, and width of the building respectively

Then

\begin{gathered} h\text{ = }\frac{kl}{w} \\ \text{where k is the constant of proportionality} \end{gathered}\begin{gathered} \Rightarrow k=\frac{hw}{l} \\ \Rightarrow k=\frac{25\times5}{10}=12.5 \end{gathered}\Rightarrow h=\frac{12.5l}{w}

The new value of h = 50m, but l remains the same.

That is l = 10m

Therefore

\begin{gathered} \frac{50}{1}=\frac{12.5\times10}{w} \\ \Rightarrow\frac{50}{1}=\frac{125}{w} \\ \text{Cross multiplying, we have} \\ 50w\text{ = 125} \\ \Rightarrow\text{ w=}\frac{125}{50}=2.5 \end{gathered}

Hence, the width is 2.5m

F(x)=-2x+4<br><br> find domain and range

Domain: All real numbers

Range: All real numbers

Since the function is linear it is a continuous straight line meaning that the domain and range are all real numbers.

After drawing the line y = 2x − 1 and marking the point A = (−2, 7), Kendall is trying to decide which point on the line is clos
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Having drawn the line, Kendall must verify that the point P belongs to the line y = 2x-1 and then calculate the distance between A-P  and verify if it is the closest to A or there is another one of the line

Having the point P(3,5) substitue x to verify y

y=2*(3)-1=6-1=5 (3,5)

Now if the angle formed by A and P is 90º it means that it is the closest point, otherwise that point must be found

d_{AP}=\sqrt{(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}+(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}}=\sqrt{(5-7)^{2}+(3-(-2}))^{2}}=\\\sqrt{(-2)^{2}+(5)^{2}}=\sqrt{29}

and we found the distance PQ and QA

; d_{PQ}=\sqrt{125}, d_{QA}=12

be the APQ triangle we must find <APQ through the cosine law (graph 2).
