What would be the maximum value for f(x) = −5x2 + 9
Maru [420]
Well, looking at the expression, it has a -5 on the leading term, that means is not just a quadratic, but is a parabolic graph and because the coefficient of the leading term is negative, is upside-down, or opening downwards.

because it opens downwards, it looks like an arc, comes from the bottom up up up gets to a "maximum" or U-turn (vertex), then goes back down down down.  So, where's the vertex anyway?

\bf \textit{ vertex of a vertical parabola, using coefficients}\\\\
\begin{array}{lccclll}
f(x) = &{{ -5}}x^2&{{ +0}}x&{{ +9}}\\
&\uparrow &\uparrow &\uparrow \\
&a&b&c
\end{array}\qquad
\left(-\cfrac{{{ b}}}{2{{ a}}}\quad ,\quad  {{ c}}-\cfrac{{{ b}}^2}{4{{ a}}}\right)
\\\\\\
\left( -\cfrac{0}{2(-5)}~~,~~9-\cfrac{0}{4(-5)} \right)\implies (0~~,~~9)

so, that's where the vertex is, and the maximum value for f(x), is the y-coordinate of course, or 9.

Need help with this
Marrrta [24]

Answer:

law of cosines states c^2=a^2+b^2-2abc

b^2=26^2+24^2-2(26×24)cos 134°

b^2=676+576-1248cos134°

cos134= -0.6946

b^2=1252-12(-0.6946)

12×(-0.6946)= -8.3352

b^2=1252-(-8.3352)

b^2=1252+8.3352

b^2=1260.33

b=√1260.33

b=35.50

The instructor’s friend also plans to rent an apartment in the same complex. Use the graph to identify the y-intercept and the s
Marta_Voda [28]

Answer:

The y-intercept is 3000. The slope is -275. Therefore, your equation in slope intercept form is y = -275x +3000.

Step-by-step explanation:

Y intercept is found where x = 0 or on the y axis, so the only place on this graph where x = 0 and there is a number on the y axis is at (0, 3000), making 3000 your y intercept. The slope is figured from two points, and taking y2-y1/x2-x1. This would give you 3000-2450/2-0 which is -550/2 which is -275. That's your slope. Slope intercept form is y = mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. Just plug in, and you get y = -275x+3000
