Civil defendant- party being sued. Plaintiff- the suing party. Criminal defendant- party accused of crime. Prosecutor- lawyer acting on behalf of the government to supply burden of proof against defendant. Misdemeanor- punishable by no more than 1 year imprisonment. Felony- crime punishable by more than 1 year. Testimony- witness’s statements. Burden of proof- it’s the prosecutors job to prove guilt, not the defendants burden to prove innocence. Reasonable doubt- to the jury, it’s at least slightly possible that the defendant did not commit the crime.

Officials would most likely consider factors like, the crime the inmate has committed, their behavior while in jail/prison, and the inmate's willingness to be responsible.
