Answers:

Mariya is currently 1 years old

Vikram is currently 7 years old

==========================================================

Explanatin:

M = Mariya's current age

V = Vikram's current age

"In 6 years, Mariya will be as old as Vikram is now" means that

M+6 = V

Since adding 6 to M gets Mariya's age 6 years into the future, which is set equal to Vikram's current age. The equation above is the same as V = M+6.

------------

"In 2 years, Vikram will be 3 times older than Miriya" telling us that

V+2 = 3*(M+2)

Basically we add 2 to each current age to get V+2 and M+2 respectively. Then we triple (M+2) so that we get V+2.

-----------

Let's plug in V = M+6 and solve for M

V+2 = 3*(M+2)

M+6+2 = 3*(M+2) .... replace V with M+6

M+8 = 3M+6

8-6 = 3M-M

2 = 2M

2M = 2

M = 2/2

M = 1

Mariya is currently 1 years old.

V = M+6

V = 1+6

V = 7

Vikram is currently 7 years old

----------------

If we add 6 to Mariya's current age, we get 7 which is Vikram's current age (don't change Vikram's age)

Go back to M = 1 and V = 7, and add 2 years to each. So we have

M+2 = 1+2 = 3

V+2 = 7+2 = 9

In 2 years, Mariya and Vikram are 3 and 9 respectively. Note how he is three times older than she is at this point in time.

These facts help us confirm we have the right answers.

If a train travels at 80mph for 15 min, what is the distance traveled ?
VMariaS [17]

Answer:

20 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for distance is

d =rt  where r  is the rate and t is the time

We need to convert the time to hours since the rate is in mph

15 minutes * 1 hour/ 60 minutes = 1/4 hour = .25 hours

d = (80 mph) * .25 hours

d = 20 miles
