Consider the following equation for the combustion of acetone (C3H6O), the main ingredient in nail polish remover.
disa [49]

Answer:

a) 4869 kJ will be released

b) 43.86 g of octane

Explanation:

The heat of combustion is the amount of heat released when 1 mol of a substance reacts with enough oxygen .

Since the heat of combustion  is per mol of combustible  substance what we are required to do in  this problem is calculate number moles in the reactions although in a different manner.

a) MW C3H6O = 158 g/mol

mol C3H6O = 158 g x 1 mol/58.08 g = 2.72

-1790 kJ/ mol x 2.72 mol = 4869 kJ

b) Here we are asked the mass of octane to produce 1950 kJ of heat knowing that per mol of octane we get 5074.1 kJ, then

1 mol / 5074.1 kJ   x  1950 kJ = 0.384 mol

mass C8H18 = 0.384 mol x 114.23 g/mol = 43.86 g

A cube with edge = 1.00” of an unknown pure substance has a mas off 10.0 oz. what is the density of this substance in g/mL? In k
shepuryov [24]

Answer 1) The density of the cube is found to be 17.30 g/mL

Given the edge that is 1 inch, so to convert it into cc which will be;

1" = 16.38 cc and cc = mL

Convert mass given in oz into g;

10 oz = 283.495 g;

The formula is Mass = Density / Volume

Substituting;

Density = (283.495 / 16.38) = 17.30 g/mL

Hence, the density will be 17.30 g/mL

Answer 2) The density of cube should be 1.738 Kg/L

The same process of conversion can be followed,

To convert Mass in Kg will be 0.02834 Kg and Volume in L it will be 0.0163 L

On solving with the equation of Mass = Density /  Volume;

Density = (0.02834 / 0.0163) = 1.738 Kg/L

Here, the density will be 1.738 Kg/L

Determine where to dispose of each type of waste.
sattari [20]

Syringe tips and titrant solution in a container,  unused solid reagent in the manufacturer's container and  broken flask in the cardboard box.

Syringe tips are dispose into the disposal containers present in the lab or hospitals.  Unused solid reagent is dispose in the manufacturer's container and then label the container with a hazardous waste tag so that people can't use it and stay away from it.

Broken flask is dispose in the cardboard box or a container.  Titrant solution can also be dispose by placing in a container which is leak proof and closed the opening tightly so that it can't pollute and damaged the outside world.
