A machine shop produces heavy duty high endurance 20-inch rods that are meant for use in a variety of military grade equipment.

On occasion, the machine malfunctions and produces a groove or a chisel cut mark somewhere on the rod. If such defective rods can be cut so that there is at least 15 consecutive inches without a groove, then the rods can be salvaged for other purposes. If the location of the groove on a rod is described by a uniform distribution, what is the probability that a defective rod can be salvaged?

Answer:

The probability that a defective rod can be salvaged = 0.50

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that:

A machine shop produces heavy duty high endurance 20-inch rods

On occasion, the machine malfunctions and produces a groove or a chisel cut mark somewhere on the rod.

If such defective rods can be cut so that there is at least 15 consecutive inches without a groove.

Then; The defective rod can be salvaged if the groove lies on the rod between 0 and 5 inches i.e ( 20  - 15 )inches

Now:

P(X ≤ 5) = \dfrac{5}{20}

= 0.25

P(X ≥ 15) = \dfrac{5}{20}

= 0.25

The probability that a defective rod can be salvaged = P(X ≤ 5) + P(X ≥ 15)

= 0.25+0.25

 = 0.50

∴ The probability that a defective rod can be salvaged = 0.50

Find the line through
Kaylis [27]

Answer:

(\frac{1}{2},\frac{-1}{2},\frac{1}{2})

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given the intersection coordinates:

(7,1,-6) and perpendicular to the line x=-1+t ,y=-2+t and z=-1+t

From the condition of perpendicularity we know:

(7,1,-6)(x,y,z)

\Rightarrow 7x+y-6z=0

Now, we have given x=-1+t , y=-2+t and  z= -1+t

7(-1+t)+(-2+t)-6(-1+t)=0

-7+7t-2+t+6-6t=0

\Rightarrow -3+2t=0

2t=3

t=\frac{3}{2}

Now, substituting t in the given coordinates x,y and z we get:

x=-1+\frac{3}{2}=\frac{1}{2}

y=-2+\frac{3}{2}=\frac{-1}{2}

And z=-1+\frac{3}{2}=\frac{1}{2}

Using the change-of-base formula, which of the following is equivalent to the
Otrada [13]

Given:

The logarithmic expression is:

\log_718

To find:

The equivalent expression of given expression by using change-of-base formula.

Solution:

The change-of-base formula is:

\log_ba=\dfrac{\log_ca}{\log_cb}

The given expression is:

\log_718

Using the change-of-base formula, we get

\log_718=\dfrac{\log_c18}{\log_c7}

Where, is a constant and c>0.

Let c=10, then

\log_718=\dfrac{\log_{10}18}{\log_{10}7}

Therefore, the correct option is a.

If you take out a loan for $4,000 and you will owe $4,920 after 2 years, what is the rate of simple interest? Express your answe
11111nata11111 [884]

Answer:

11.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Simple interest formula:

I=P\cdot r\cdot t,

where

I = interest

P = principal

r = rate

t = time

In your case,

P = $4,000

I = $4,920 - $4,000 = $920

t = 2 years

So,

920=4,000\cdot r\cdot 2\\ \\r=\dfrac{920}{2\cdot 4,000}=0.115

The rate as decimal is 0.115 that is 11.5% as percent
