Answer:

Length = 82.5 feet

Width = 17.5 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for the Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(Length + Width)

= 2L + 2W

We are told in the question that: Darrin is hanging 200 feet of Christmas garland on the fencing that encloses his rectangular front yard

Hence, The perimeter of the rectangular front yard = 200 feet

200 = 2( L + W).........Equation 1

Also, the length is 5 feet less than 5 times the width

L = 5W - 5

Hence,

200= 2(5W - 5 + W)

200 = 2(5W + W - 5)

200 = 2(6W - 5)

200 = 12W - 10

Collect the like terms

200 + 10 = 12W

210 = 12W

W = 210/12

W = 17.5 feet

Substitute 17.5 for W in Equation 1

200 = 2( L + W).........Equation 1

200 = 2( L + 17.5)

200 = 2L + 35

200 - 35 = 2L

2L = 165

L = 165/2

L = 82.5 feet

Therefore, the Length of the rectangular fence = 82.5 feet while the Width of the rectangular fence is 17.5 feet.

What is the slope for y=3x-4? What is the y-intercept for y=3x-4?
riadik2000 [5.3K]

Step-by-step explanation:

Equation of a line is y = mx + c

where

m is the slope

c is the y intercept

From the question the equation of the line is

y = 3x - 4

Comparing with the general equation above

The slope /m = 3

The y intercept / c = - 4

Hope this helps you

Let X ~ N(0, 1) and Y = eX. Y is called a log-normal random variable.
Cloud [144]

If F_Y(y) is the cumulative distribution function for Y, then

F_Y(y)=P(Y\le y)=P(e^X\le y)=P(X\le\ln y)=F_X(\ln y)

Then the probability density function for Y is f_Y(y)={F_Y}'(y):

f_Y(y)=\dfrac{\mathrm d}{\mathrm dy}F_X(\ln y)=\dfrac1yf_X(\ln y)=\begin{cases}\frac1{y\sqrt{2\pi}}e^{-\frac12(\ln y)^2}&\text{for }y>0\\0&\text{otherwise}\end{cases}

The nth moment of Y is

E[Y^n]=\displaystyle\int_{-\infty}^\infty y^nf_Y(y)\,\mathrm dy=\frac1{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_0^\infty y^{n-1}e^{-\frac12(\ln y)^2}\,\mathrm dy

Let u=\ln y, so that \mathrm du=\frac{\mathrm dy}y and y^n=e^{nu}:

E[Y^n]=\displaystyle\frac1{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_{-\infty}^\infty e^{nu}e^{-\frac12u^2}\,\mathrm du=\frac1{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_{-\infty}^\infty e^{nu-\frac12u^2}\,\mathrm du

Complete the square in the exponent:

nu-\dfrac12u^2=-\dfrac12(u^2-2nu+n^2-n^2)=\dfrac12n^2-\dfrac12(u-n)^2

E[Y^n]=\displaystyle\frac1{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_{-\infty}^\infty e^{\frac12(n^2-(u-n)^2)}\,\mathrm du=\frac{e^{\frac12n^2}}{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_{-\infty}^\infty e^{-\frac12(u-n)^2}\,\mathrm du

But \frac1{\sqrt{2\pi}}e^{-\frac12(u-n)^2} is exactly the PDF of a normal distribution with mean n and variance 1; in other words, the 0th moment of a random variable U\sim N(n,1):

E[U^0]=\displaystyle\frac1{\sqrt{2\pi}}\int_{-\infty}^\infty e^{-\frac12(u-n)^2}\,\mathrm du=1

so we end up with

E[Y^n]=e^{\frac12n^2}
