Foodborne illnesses can be classified into two groups. Foodborne infection and foodborne intoxication. Foodborne infection occurs in the body when we consume food which contains a pathogenic microbe that makes us sick for example salmonellosis.
Food born intoxication caused when we consume food which contain toxic substance that is secreted by pathogenic microbe. For example botulism.
So foodborne infection and intoxication are commonly referred and food poisoning or foodborne disease.
