The average of 4, 9, 16, 25 and x is 2x means that;
(4+9+16+25+x)/5=2x
Multiply both side by 5
5(54+x)/5=2x(5)
54+x=10x
Subtract x to both side
54+x-x=10x-x
54=9x
Divided 9 to both side
54/9=9x/9
x=6
Check:
Substitute x with 6
(4+9+16+25+x)/5=2x
(4+9+16+25+6)/5=2(6)
60/5=12
12=12; so x=6 which marks B as the correct answer. Have a nice day!

Farmer Bill sold potatoes at the farm market. He sold a quarter to the first person, 4/9 of what was left to the second person,
Lelu [443]

Answer:

<em>Farmer Bill sold 120 lb of potatoes</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose farmer Bill had x lb of potatoes. He sold a quarter to the first person. A quarter is written as (1/4)x. After that, Bill had x-(1/4)x = (3/4)x.

Then he sold 4/9 of what was left to the second person, thus it was left 1-4/9=5/9 of the remaining potatoes. Multiplying both factors:

\frac{5}{9}*\frac{3}{4}x=\frac{5}{12}x

This is the remaining portion of the potatoes.

Finally, he sold 4/5 of it and the last 10 lb. This means 1 - 4/5 = 1/5 of the remaining is equivalent to 10 lb:

\frac{1}{5}*\frac{5}{12}x=\frac{1}{12}x

Thus:

\frac{1}{12}x=10

x = 120 lb

How many solutions exist for the given equation?<br><br> 3(x – 2) = 22 – x
Orlov [11]

Answer:

One solution

Step-by-step explanation:

3(x – 2) = 22 – x

Distribute

3x - 6 = 22 -x

Add x to each side

3x-6+x = 22-x+x

4x -6 =22

Add 6 to each side

4x-6+6 = 22+6

4x = 28

Divide by 4

4x/4 = 28/4

x = 7

Please solve quick
AysviL [449]

Answer:

x = 5

AB = 14 units

Step-by-step explanation:

From the picture attached,

In the given triangles ΔAEB and ΔCDB,

AE║CD and ED is a transverse,

∠EAB ≅ ∠DCB [Alternate interior angles]

AE║CD and AC is a transverse,

∠AEB ≅ ∠CDB [Alternate interior angles]

ΔAEB ~ ΔCDB by AA property of the similarity of two triangles.

Therefore, corresponding sides of these triangles will be proportional.

\frac{\text{AE}}{\text{CD}}=\frac{\text{BE}}{\text{BD}}=\frac{\text{AB}}{\text{BC}}

\frac{\text{BE}}{\text{BD}}=\frac{\text{AB}}{\text{BC}}

⇒ \frac{7}{4}=\frac{2x+4}{x+3}

⇒ 7x + 21 = 8x + 16

⇒ 8x - 7x = 21 - 16

⇒ x = 5

AB = (2x + 4)

     = 10 + 4

     = 14 units
