The first person he encounters at Ingolstadt is Krempe, a professor of natural philosophy. This meeting is described as the work of an evil influence the "Angel of Destruction." The professor is astounded at the absurd and outdated science that Victor has read in the past, and tells him to begin his studies completely anew. At first, the narrator is indifferent to the idea of returning to science: he has developed a deep contempt for natural philosophy and its uses. This changes, however, when Victor attends a lecture given by a professor named Waldman. Victor is completely enraptured by the ideas of Waldman, who believes that scientists can perform miracles, acquire unlimited powers, and "mock the invisible world with its own shadows." He decides to return to the study of natural philosophy at once; he visits Professor Waldman the following day to tell him that he has found a disciple in Victor Frankenstein.

Zielflug [23.3K]

Answer:

C. Steinbeck is introducing conflict to the story to help advance the plot.

Explanation:

In this passage, we see that Steinbeck introduces conflict in order to move the plot along. We learn that Curley suspects that his wife is being unfaithful, and that this makes him extremely mad. We can guess that this conflict will escalate when Curley finds Slim and his wife, and this conflict will most likely lead to an unhappy outcome. Adding conflict to a story is one of the most common and most effective ways in which an author might move the plot of a story along.

From what point of view is this story written? What effect does the chosen point of view have on the story?
Ann [662]

Since there's no context to the story, Ill just say the different point of views...

  • If the story consists of "I" and "me" out of quotes, the story is first person
  • If the story uses "You", "We", "She" "Him" "It" or "they", that would be second person
  • Lastly, if the story contains names of the characters, (such as a narrator would, rather than someone telling a story), that would be third person.
