Hello!

You can make this into two expressions based on what you know

let x stand for Devaughn's age
let y stand for Sydney's age

x = y + 10
x + y = 64

You can put x into the second equatoin

y + 10 + y = 64

Combine like terms

2y + 10 = 64

Subtract both sides by 10

2y = 54

Divide both sides by 2

y = 27

You can put y into the first equation

x = 27 + 10

combine like terms

x = 37

Devaugn is 37 and Sydney is 27

Hope this helps!

To solve both of these expressions, we want to add or subtract from left to right.

For the first one, we can rewrite it as:

8-6-9
=2-9
=-7

The second one we can rewrite as:

5-7+9+8-4
=-2+9+8-4
=7+8-4
=15-4
=11

How can I solve this?!
Nutka1998 [239]

A

evaluate f(5) and f(2)

f(5) = 5m + b and f(2) = 2m + b, hence

f(5) - f(2) = 5m + b - 2m - b = 3m

the expression simplifies to

\frac{3m}{3} = 2 ( cross- multiply )

3m = 6 ( divide both sides by 3 )

m = 2 → A
