Answer: The light is slowed down by the prism, but the different wavelengths of light are  all slowed down a different amount by the prism.

Explanation:

What happens here is that white light passes from a medium with an specific index of refraction (air) to another medium with a different index of refraction (the material of which the prism is composed).

Then, when light passes from a medium to another, its speed changes causing the deviation of the beam of light. However, we are talking about white light that is composed of different wavelenghts. So, since the frequency of light remains costant when passing from one medium to another, the different wavelengths change as a result of the change in speed.

This was first observed by Isaac Newton in the eighteenth century, when he found out that when a beam of light from the Sun, passes trhough a prism is decomposed in many different colors.

The length of a wire 2.00 m is measured as 2.02m. What is the percentage error in the measurement?
n200080 [17]

Answer:

1%

Explanation:

Percent error can be found by dividing the absolute error (difference between measure and actual value) by the actual value, then multiplying by 100.

Percent Error=\frac{V_{measured}- V_{true} } {V_{true}} *100

The measured value is 2.02 meters and the actual value is 2.00 meters.

V_{measured}=2.02\\\\V_{true}=2.00

Percent Error=\frac{2.02-2.00}{2.00} *100

First, evaluate the fraction. Subtract 2.00 from 2.02

Percent Error=\frac{0.02}{2.00}*100

Next, divide 0.02 by 2.00

PercentError=0.01 *100

Finally, multiply 0.01 and 100.

Percent Error=1\\Percent Error= 1 \%

The percent error is 1%.

in positive numbers less than 1, the zeros between the decimal point and a non-zero number are _______ significant?
DedPeter [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

If a number of less than 1, then the number has a decimal point like

0.085, 0.008 e.t.c.

The zeros before the none zero digit are insignificant. The significant figure is 8 and 5.

But if there a zero between the none zero e.g. 0.0087056

Here the zero between 7 and 5 is significant, then the significant numbers are 8,7,0,5,6

But if the zero is not in between the none zero digit, then the zero is insignificant

E.g 0.05800

The last two zero is insignificant, the significant number is 5 and 8

So, If a positive numbers less than 1, the zeros between the decimal point and a non-zero number are NOT significant.
