Answer: The light is slowed down by the prism, but the different wavelengths of light are  all slowed down a different amount by the prism.

Explanation:

What happens here is that white light passes from a medium with an specific index of refraction (air) to another medium with a different index of refraction (the material of which the prism is composed).

Then, when light passes from a medium to another, its speed changes causing the deviation of the beam of light. However, we are talking about white light that is composed of different wavelenghts. So, since the frequency of light remains costant when passing from one medium to another, the different wavelengths change as a result of the change in speed.

This was first observed by Isaac Newton in the eighteenth century, when he found out that when a beam of light from the Sun, passes trhough a prism is decomposed in many different colors.

When the electron in a hydrogen atom moves from n = 6 to n = 1, light with a wavelength of ________ nm is emitted?
Oduvanchick [21]
First we find the energy level with the following formula, where a is the energy level, n1 is the final energy level, n2 is the starting energy level and r is Rydberg's constant in Joules
a = r \times ( \frac{1}{n1}  -  \frac{1}{n2} )
We insert the values

a = 2.18 \times  {10}^{ - 18}  \times ( \frac{1}{ {1}^{2} } -  \frac{1}{ {6}^{2} }  )
= 2.12 \times {10}^{ - 18}
The wavelength is found with this formula, where h is Planck's constant and c is the speed of light
wavelength =  \frac{h \times c}{a}
Finally we insert the values
\frac{6.626 \times  {10}^{ - 34}  \times 3 \times  {10}^{8} }{2.12 \times  {10}^{ - 18} }  = 9.376 \times  {10}^{ - 8}
Which is the same as 93.8 nm

1. A car travels 36 miles North and then 45 miles East. How far does it
salantis [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

Displacement is the shortest distance or path between two points.

1) Displacement = √(36² + 45²) = 57.63 miles

2) Displacement = √(100² + 500²) = 509.9 meters

3) Displacement = √(60² + 40²) = 72.11 miles

4) Displacement = √(700² + 500²) = 860.23 miles

5) Displacement = 300 - 300 = 0 miles

6) Displacement = 200 + 100 = 300 miles

7) Displacement = √(650² + 650²) = 919.24 miles

8) Yes, since a distance is moved in a direction

An RC circuit is connected across an ideal DC voltage source through an open switch. The switch is closed at time t = 0 s. Which
steposvetlana [31]

Answer:

e)

Explanation:

In an RC series circuit, at any time, the sum of the voltages through the resistor and the capacitor must be constant and equal to the voltage of the DC voltage source, in order to be compliant with KVL.

At= 0, as the voltage through the capacitor can't change instantaneously, all the voltage appears through the resistor, which means that a current flows, that begins to charge the capacitor, up to a point that the voltage through the capacitor is exactly equal to the DC voltage, so no current flows in the circuit anymore, and the charge in the capacitor reaches to its maximum value.
