Answer:

Total Sold potatoes =213

Paid price=213*0.47=100.11

Sold price=213*0.88=187.44

Lost potatoes=2.82

=187.44-100.11-2.82

Profit =84.51

5 p increased by 25% is equal to q decreased by 25%. Work out p as a percentage of q.
oksano4ka [1.4K]

The answer is no it will be less here's why let say the original amount is A then a p% increase will be A(1+p/100))

Now from this amount we decrease it by p% this gives A(1+p/100)(1-p/100). We can simplify this expression some by letting x=p/100 then we have A(1+x)(1-x) but this is equal to A(1-x2). You can see that the value of what's inside the () is always <1 as long as x>0. If we calculate how much the amount changes we have A(1-x2)-A=-Ax2 is always a loss.

         This is one of the reasons some people lose money in the stock market. If a stock rises 10% and then drops 10% you have actually lost money but it sounds, on the face of it, like you should be even. +10 and -10 percent.

          If we now do the calculation for the 25% up and down we have the final amount is is .9375 which is 1.25*.75. and the change is .9375-1=-.0625. So the net result is down 6.25%

Jay is cutting a roll of biscuit dough into slices that are 3/8 inch thick. If the roll is 101/2 inches long, how many slices ca
IceJOKER [234]
The roll of the biscuit is 101/2 inches long. It has to be cut into slices that are 3/8 inches thick.
Then
The number of slices = (101/2)/(3/8)
                                   = (101/2) * (8/3)
                                   = 808/6
                                   = 404/3
                                   = 134.66
So the biscuit dough can be cut into 134 slices approximately. A small part will be left. This is the only way to find out the number of slices the biscuit dough can be sliced into. Hope this helps you in understanding the way it is done.

Write the sentence as an equation.
bearhunter [10]

The solution to a given word problem by writing it as an equation is k = 253/232

Expressing word problems in mathematical forms:

The process of expressing word problems in mathematical forms takes a logical and chronological approach while taking the variables and arithmetic operations given into consideration.

From the given information, to express the word problem in mathematical form, we have:

  • 253 = 232 × k
  • 253 = 232k

Making k the subject of the equation, we have:

k = 253/232
