         In most organisms/species, meiosis 1 is completed before the ovulation phase. <em>The ovulation phase is when the ovum is released from the ovary.</em> In some organisms/species, meiosis 1 is completed after the ovulation phase.

Answer:After a primary oocyte completes the first meiotic division, it is called a secondary oocyte (1N). In most species Meiosis I is completed just before ovulation (release of the ovum from the ovary). However, in horses and dogs Meiosis I is completed after ovulation.
