For example, deforesting the habitat of birds will cause them to more easily be captured by their predators. The predator population will then grow exponentially, but because the bird population is decreasing the predator population will eventually die out. Since now there are no predators at all in the area for pests such as mice, these pests can no infest agricultural farms killing crops. Without these crops we humans cannot survive, so in the end us humans will be the ones impacted by our own actions. This example may seem like an exaggerated example to many, but when you take a look back at the major famines throughout history you will be able to see the trend.
