1kg of sodium per oxide will produce what quantity of oxygen in STP

Chemistry
1 answer:
DENIUS [597]3 years ago

287.2L

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of sodium peroxide = 1000g = 1kg

Unknown

volume of oxygen produced at STP

Solution:

At standard temperatue and pressure STP;

     Number of moles = \frac{mass }{molar mass}

molar mass of Na₂O₂ = (2 x 23) + (2 x 16 ) = 78g/mol

   Number of moles = \frac{1000}{78} = 12.82mole

To solve this problem, we need to write the equation of the reaction since this is a decomposition reaction;

     Na₂O₂  →  2Na  +  O₂

The unknown is the volume of oxygen that would be produced at STP

  Volume of gas at STP = number of moles x 22.4

From the equation;

   1 mole of Na₂O₂ produced 1 mole of O₂ gas

  12.82mole will produce 12.82mole of oxygen gas

Now, the volume of gas at STP = 12.82 x 22.4 = 287.2L

What is the boiling point of water when the atmospheric pressure exerted on the water is 81 kPa ?
stellarik [79]

Answer: The boiling point of water at 81 kPa will be 298.17 K.

Explanation:

The boiling point of water is 373 K at atmospheric pressure. So, to calculate the boiling point at 81 kPa, we use the law given by Gay-Lussac.

Gay-Lussac Law states that pressure is directly proportional to the temperature when volume and moles remain constant.

Mathematically,

\frac{P_1}{T_1}=\frac{P_2}{T_2

where,

P_1\text{ and }T_1 = Initial pressure and temperature

P_2\text{ and }T_2 = Final pressure and temperature

We are given:

P_1=1atm=101.325kPa\\T_1=373K\\P_2=81kPa\\T_2=?K

Putting values in above equation, we get:

\frac{101.325kPa}{373K}=\frac{81kPa}{T_2}\\\\T_2=298.17K

Hence, the boiling point of water at 81 kPa will be 298.17 K.

Aluminium oxide has a very high melting point (2072 degrees C) while carbon dioxide has a very low boiling point (-57 degrees C)
____ [38]

Answer:

Well, Aluminum Oxide has a very high melting point. Carbon dioxide has a very low boiling point.

Explanation:

They are both talking about different things, melting and boiling. Aluminum Oxide's melting point is much higher then carbon dioxide's melting point. Hope this help, and good luck on your assignment (if one)

How many moles of Ammonium Sulfate can be made from 30.0mol of NH3? 2NH3 + H2SO4 --> (NH4)2SO4
BartSMP [9]

Answer: 15.0 moles of (NH_4)_2SO_4 are formed from 30.0 mol of NH_3

Explanation:

The balanced chemical reaction is :

2NH_3+H_2SO_4\rightarrow (NH_4)_2SO_4

According to stoichiometry :

2 moles of NH_3 give = 1 mole of (NH_4)_2SO_4

Thus 30.0 moles of NH_3 will give =\frac{1}{2}\times 30.0=15.0moles  of (NH_4)_2SO_4

Thus 15.0 moles of (NH_4)_2SO_4 are formed from 30.0 mol of NH_3
