Bronze is an alloy or mixture of the metals copper and tin. The properties of bronze depends on the percentage of copper in the

mix. A chemist decides to study the properties of a given alloy of bronze as the proportion of copper is varied. She starts with 7 kg of bronze that contain 3.5 kg of copper and 3.5 kg of tin and either adds or removes copper. Let f(x) be the percentage of copper in the mix if x kg of copper are add (x>0) or removed (x<0).

a. State the domain and range of f (assume that the chemist wants a non-negative amount of both copper and tin).

(a)

Because there is 3.5 kg of copper in the original mix, then the maximum amount of copper that can be removed is 3.5 kg, in that case, x would be equal to -3.5 and the percentage of copper would be 0%. Then, (-3.5, infinity) interval is the domain. When 3.5 kg of copper are removed, f(x) = 0%, and in the limit when x tends to infinity, f(x) = 100%. So, the range is 0% to 100%.

(b)

The percentage of copper in the mix, f(x) = 100*(3.5 + x)/(7 + x)

where x is kg of copper that are add (x>0) or removed (x<0)

(c)

In this case, the domain of the function is every real number except -7, i. e., (-infinity, -7) U (-7, infinity) interval.

The range of a rational function where the grade of the polynomial in the numerator is less or equal than the grade of the polynomial in the denominator is all real numbers, i. e., (-infinity, infinity) interval.

A. The domain is any real number.
The range is f(x) ≥ 0.5 (or 50%)

b. The formula is
f(x) = (3.5 + x) / (7 + x)

c. The domain is any number except -7. The range is any real number greater than 0.

If TRAP is an isosceles trapezoid what is the value of x
rewona [7]

Answer:

B

Step-by-step explanation:

In an isosceles trapezoid any lower base angle is supplementary to any upper base angle, thus

6x + 2x + 4 = 180, that is

8x + 4 = 180 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

8x = 176 ( divide both sides by 8 )

x = 22 → B

"in 2012, total u.s. bottled water consumption increased to 9.67 billion gallons, up from 9.1 billion gallons in 2011. in fact,
Maru [420]

Using proportions, it is found that the estimate of the the per capita consumption from 2011 was of 29.25 gallons.

<h3>What is a proportion?</h3>

A proportion is a fraction of a total amount, and the measures are related using a rule of three.

The amount in 2012 was a increase of 5.3% from 2011, that is, 105.3% = 1.053 of x, and the consumption per capita was of 30.8 gallons, hence:

1.053x = 30.8

x = 30.8/1.053

x = 29.25 gallons.

At the movie theater child admission is $5.20 and adult admission is $8.40.on Sunday 153 tickets were sold for a total sales of
DerKrebs [107]
Let x be the number of children and t, the number of adults.

 x + y =153
5.2x + 8.4y = 1013.2

Solving those equation will give:

x = 85 tickets sold to the kids ( and 68 tickets for adults)

A neighborhood development that is 4 acres is to be divided into 2/3 acre lots. How many lots can be created?
mihalych1998 [28]

6 lots can be created

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that neighborhood development that is 4 acres is to be divided into \frac{2}{3}acre lots

To find: number of lots created

From given information,

Total acres = 4

one lot = \frac{2}{3} \text{ acres }

So number of lots created can be found by dividing the total acres by acre of 1 lot

<em><u>Thus the formula is:</u></em>

\text{ Number of lots } = \frac{\text{ total acres }}{\text{ acre of 1 lot }}

<em><u>Substituting the values we get,</u></em>

\text{Number of lots } = \frac{4}{\frac{2}{3}} = 4 \times \frac{3}{2} = 6

Thus 6 lots can be created
