A politician extols the positive effects that being in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts has. The politician touts the negative cor
relation between activity in Scouting and frequency of criminal behavior, such that few teenagers convicted of street crimes have been members of the Scouts. He uses this finding to argue that Scouting has a positive influence on youth. Is he right?
Although it may be true that Scouting may have a positive influence on the youth he is not necessarily right. Individuals make their decisions based on many factors, including home life situations as well as the environment in which they grow up. This includes other individuals of the same age. Bad influences can also exist in the Boy/Girl scouts which lead kids towards criminal behavior.
The search of bags and pockets is a requirement for security reasons at prisons, prior to any contact a person has with someone they want to visit.
