Vista county is setting aside a large parcel of land to preserve it as open space. the county has hired Meghan's surveying firm

to survey the parcel which is in the shape of a right triangle. the longer leg of the triangle measures 5 miles less than the square of the shorter leg, and the hypotenuse of the triangle measures 13 miles less than twice the square of the shorter leg. the length of each boundary is a whole number. find the length of each boundary.

Let a=the length of the shorter leg
Let b=the length of the longer leg
Let c=the length of the hypotenuse

b=a^{2}-5
c=2a^{2}-13
Pythagorean Theorem:
c^{2}=a^{2}+b^{2}
⇒(2a^{2}-13)^{2}=a^{2}+(a^{2}-5)^{2}
Substitute a new variable n into a^{2}
⇒(2n-13)^{2}=n+(n-5)^{2}
⇒4n^{2}-52n+169=n+n^{2}-10n+25
⇒4n^{2}-52n+169=n^{2}-9n+25
⇒3n^{2}-43n+144=0
⇒(3n-16)(n-9)=0
⇒n=\frac{16}{3} or n=9
Since 9 is a perfect square, we go with n=a^{2}=9
⇒a=3

Plug a into b=a^{2}-5
⇒b=3^{2}-5
⇒b=9-5
⇒b=4

Plug a into c=2a^{2}-13
⇒c=2(3)^{2}-13
⇒c=18-13
⇒c=5

So the triangle is a 3-4-5 right triangle.

Answer:

22.3838476568 in²

Step-by-step explanation:

First you would find the area of sector (yellow). The formula is 75/360 x π x 3².

this is equal to 5.89048622548. Now the total circle area is 3²xπ = 28.2743338823. 28.2743338823 - 5.89048622548 = 22.3838476568 in²

Two-thirds of the T-shirts in a T-shirt shop are blue. Three-fifths of those T-shirts are on sale. One-half of the blue T
katrin2010 [14]

Let, total number of T-shirts are x.

Number of blue T-shirts = (2/3)x = 2x/3 .

Number of blue shirts on sale = (3/5)(2x/3) = 2x/5 .

Number of medium sized blue shirts on sale = (1/5)(2x/5) = 2x/25 .

Fraction of the shop's T-shirts are blue T-shirts that are on sale and are size medium = \dfrac{2x/25}{x}= 2/25 . ( Number of medium sized blue shirts on sale divided by total number of T-shirts )

Hence, this is the required solution.

A seal went 15 below sea level to catch a fish. A sea lion dove 6 feet less than two times as deep as the seal to catch a larger
anygoal [31]

Answer:

2\times 15-6 = 24\ below\ sea\ level

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that:

Distance traveled by seal to catch the fish = 15 below sea level

Sea lion wanted to catch a larger fish so sea lion dove 6 feet lesser than two time the distance that the seal traveled.

To find:

The expression to represent the position of the sea lion in the sea.

Solution:

If the distance traveled by seal is represented by D then as per the question statement:

Twice of D = 2\times D

6 lesser than twice of D = 2\times D - 6

Now, putting the value of D = 15

Therefore, the expression to represent the sea lion's position w.r.to sea level.

2\times 15-6\\ = 24\ below\ sea\ level

Help please! This has to do with the Pythagorean theorem.

ANSWER

6.63

Explanation:

Equation used: c2 = a2 + b2 ( rearranged due to having the two sides )

c2 = 12^2 + 10^2

c2 = 144 - 100

c2 = 44

c2 = 6.63 ( the square root of 44 )
