Answer:

The height of the platform is 5.929 meters

Explanation:

- Free fall means that an object is falling freely with no forces acting on

it except gravity

- The height of the object is the distance from the point which the

object falls from it to the ground

The steps to solve the problem

1. Determine the acceleration of gravity

2. Decide whether the object has an initial velocity or not

3. Determine how long the object is falling

4. Calculate the height that the object falls from it

⇒ The gravitational acceleration g = 9.8 m/s²

The ball at rest falls from a platform above the ground

⇒ Initial velocity u = 0

The ball falls freely and hits the ground 1.1 s later

⇒ The time t = 1.1 s

We need to find the height (h) of the platform

The equation of the motion is h = u t + 1/2 g t²

⇒ h = u t + 1/2 g t²

⇒ u = 0 , t = 1.1 s , g = 9.8 m/s²

Substitute these values in the equation above

⇒ h = 0 + 1/2(9.8)(1.1)²

⇒ h = 5.929

The height of the platform is 5.929 meters

3. When driving a car, the chemical energy in gasoline is converted to heat (thermal energy) in the engine. Most of this thermal
tekilochka [14]

Explanation:

As we know that the maximum of thermal energy will be converted into mechanical energy.( The thermal energy will be given to us by engine.)

But the total thermal energy will not be converted into the mechanical energy, there will be some lost of energy. The lost of mechanical energy will be in multiple forms. 2 of them are

1.Heat : The mechanical energy heats up the engine and then it will lost some energy.

2.Noise : Some energy also lost in the sound or the noise comes out from the engine. It will consume some energy.

Also, the engine never be 100% efficient some amount of energy lost in environment also.

A person hits a tennis ball with a mass of 0.058 kg against a wall.
Alla [95]

Explanation:

Mass of the ball, m = 0.058 kg

Initial speed of the ball, u = 11 m/s

Final speed of the ball, v = -11 m/s (negative as it rebounds)

Time, t = 2.1 s

(a) Let F is the average force exerted on the wall. It is given by :

F=\dfrac{m(v-u)}{t}

F=\dfrac{0.058\times (11-(-11))}{2.1}

F = 0.607 N

(b) Area of wall, A=3\ m^2

Let P is the average pressure on that area. It is given by :

P=\dfrac{F}{A}

P=\dfrac{0.607\ N}{3\ m^2}

P = 0.202 Pa

Hence, this is the required solution.

22. (I) A car slows down from 28 m/s to rest in a distance of
lidiya [134]

Answer:

a = -8.912 m/s²

Explanation:

Given,

The initial velocity of the car, u = 28 m/s

The final velocity of the car, v = 0

The distance traveled by car, d = 88 m

The velocity displacement relation is given by the formula

                                          v = d/t

∴                                         t = d/v

Substituting in the above values in the given equation

                                           t = 88/28

                                            = 3.142 s

The acceleration is given by the formula

                                         a = (v-u)/t

                                            = (0 - 28)/3.142

                                            = -8.912 m/s²

The negative sign is that the car is decelerating.

Hence, acceleration a = -8.912 m/s²
