A bottle of wine contains 9.81 grams of C2H5OH, dissolved in 87.5 grams of water. The final volume of the solution is 100.0 mL.
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer:

[EtOH] = 2.2M and Wt% EtOH = 10.1% (w/w)

Explanation:

1. Molarity = moles solute / Volume solution in Liters

=> moles solute = mass solute / formula weight of solute = 9.8g/46g·mol⁻¹ = 0.213mol EtOH

=> volume of solution (assuming density of final solution is 1.0g/ml) ...

volume solution = 9.81gEtOH + 87.5gH₂O = 97.31g solution x 1g/ml = 97.31ml = 0.09731 Liter solution

Concentration (Molarity) = moles/Liters = 0.213mol/0.09731L = 2.2M in EtOH

2. Weight Percent EtOH in solution (assuming density of final solution is 1.0g/ml)

From part 1 => [EtOH] = 2.2M in EtOH = 2.2moles EtOH/1.0L soln

= {(2.2mol)(46g/mol)]/1000g soln] x 100% = 10.1% (w/w) in EtOH.

What types of radiation cause the parent isotope to change into a different element?
kvv77 [185]

Answer:

Beta decay is most common in elements with a high neutron to proton ratio. Gamma decay follows the form: In gamma emission, neither the atomic number or the mass number is changed. A high energy gamma ray is given off when the parent isotope falls into a lower energy state.

Can the same fertilizer be applied to all types of soil ? Explain
Arte-miy333 [17]
You cant use the same fertilizer for all soils bc differnt soils have different nutrients like lets say ur growing tomatoes with cabbage it wouldnt work bc they need different nutrients for them to grow. This is used with trees, veggies, plants and fruits. it is true somw can use the same fertilizer if they can be grown with it. if you give it the wrong nutrients it can die or not grow

Answer:

Expression for the change of melting temperature with pressure..> T₂ = T₁exp(-(P₂-P₁)/(3.61x10⁹ Pa), Freezing Point = 0°C

Explanation:

Derivation from state postulate

Using the state postulate, take the specific entropy, , for a homogeneous substance to be a function of specific volume and temperature .

ds = (partial s/partial v)(t) dv + (partial s/partial T)(v) dT

During a phase change, the temperature is constant, so

ds = (partial s/partial v)(T) dv

Using the appropriate Maxwell relation gives

ds = (partial P/partial T)(v) dv

s(β) – s(aplαha) = dP/dT (v(β) – v(α))

dP/dT = s(β) – s(α)/v(β) – v(α) = Δs/Δv

Here Δs and Δv are respectively the change in specific entropy and specific volume from the initial phase α to the final phase β.

For a closed system undergoing an internally reversible process, the first law is

du = δq – δw = Tds - Pdv

Using the definition of specific enthalpy, h and the fact that the temperature and pressure are constant, we have

du + Pdv = dh Tds,

ds = dh/T,

Δs = Δh/T = L/T

After substitution of this result into the derivative of the pressure, one finds

dp/dT = L/TΔv

This last equation is the Clapeyron equation.

a)

(dP/dT) = dH/TdV => dP/dlnT = dH/dV

=> dP/dlnT = dH/dV = [H(liquid) - H(solid)]/[V(liquid) - V(solid)]

= [335,000 J/kg]/[1000⁻¹ - 915⁻¹ m³/kg]

= -3.61x10⁹ J/m³ = -3.61x10⁹ Pa

=> P₂ = P₁ - 3.61x10⁹ ln(T₂/T₁) Pa

or

T₂ = T₁exp(-(P₂-P₁)/(3.61x10⁹ Pa)

b) if the pressure in Denver is 84.6 kPa:

T₂(freezing) = 273.15exp[-(84,600-100,000)/(3.61x10⁹)]

≅ 273.15 = 0°C T₁(freezing) essentially no change
