The helper T cells are vital in coordinating the activity of the immune response. They secrete chemical messages known as cytokines to stimulate the non-specific immune response to continue, to strengthen and to boost appropriate specific responses. They are sometimes called conductors like that of an orchestra because they coordinate or orchestrate immune system activities. Furthermore, they are also called "generals" because they assemble the B cells, cytotoxic T cells and other helper T cells troops to attack the invading pathogens.
