An integer is said to be prime if it has no non-trivial divisors.

A number x is said to be a divisor of another number y if you can divide y:x with no remainder.

For example, 2 is a divisor of 14 because you can divide 14:2=7 with no remainder.

3 is not a divisor of 14, because 14:3=4 with remainder 2.

Note that all numbers are always divisible by 1 and themselves: for every number n, we have

n\div 1 = n,\quad n\div n=1

So, a number is prime if it has no other divisors, other than 1 and themselves.

For example, 13 is a prime number because you can divide it only by 1 and 13: if you try to divide it by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 you'll always have a reminder.
