Answer:

The Lives of Jean Val'jean, Marius, and Thenardier are connected through many ways. One way is how Jean Val'jean adopted Cosette from Thenardier after Fantine died and he saw how brutally she was mistreated by them. Marius, who is also the suitor of Cosette, has been told to do all that he can to help and support the Thenardiers by his father. This happens right after his fathers death, because he believes that he owes his life to Monsieur Thenardier (The husband of Thenardier.) Marius also becomes aware of Jean Val Jean's past criminal life as Cosette's Suitor.
