1. Enterococcus and coliforms can enter the water through feces. Although a water sample is negative for these bacteria, it could still be infected by pathogens from other sources than feces.

2. Culture media are sterilized by filtration because they could contain antibiotics or serum which deteriorate upon heat. Filtration is used in sanitation to remove large particles.

3. In the membrane filter technique, it is assumed that all viable bacteria will form colonies. This means that formed colonies develop from the viable bacteria so that the number of colonies suggests the number of bacteria.

4. E. coli is negative for Citrate and Voges-Proskauer tests, and is positive for Indole and Methyl red tests.

5. The answer is yes because eosin-methylene blue agar is inhibitory to Gram+ bacteria.

1.True or false: It may be possible to save a significant proportion of Earth's biological diversity by establishing sustainable
Bezzdna [24]
1. True. Establishing more sites for the protection of biodiversity across the world can go a long way and would have a chain reaction in the ecosystem. Thus, it will save a lot of our planet's biodiversity. 2. a. -Philiab. -trophicc. eco-d. eu-3. A habitat is where certain species, animals, or organisms naturally live, feed, reproduce, etc. Examples: ocean, rainforest, deserts. An ecosystem has two components: living and non-living organisms which interact with each other to maintain homeostasis. The primary difference between the two is the presence of interaction between the things in the environment.4. Energy5. Producers6. Sun7. (No choices provided) One of the top factors that threaten the survival of species is caused by humans, man-made phenomena. 8. Answer: Polar bears. Polar bears are endangered species and there are only approximately 20,000-30,000 polar bears left in the world. Their population had been decreasing due to habitat loss because of climate change. 9. Scientists based the background extinction rate on the number of known species that went extinct over a period of time in the past. They also based it on archaeological evidence of species that existed and went extinct years ago.

Explain how organisms changes within an environment affect their survival. Specifically discuss the effects of a gene mutation f
maw [93]
Animals gradually adapt to changes within their environment over time. This gives them a better chance of surviving rather than going extinct because of the change. Say there is a gene mutation affecting color within a population of beetles in a rain-forest. All of the beetles used to be red, but now a few of them have experienced a gene mutation and are green. Because they live in a rain-forest, it is likely that the green beetles would blend in with their surroundings far better than the original red beetles, and those red beetles would be wiped out by predators because they are easier to spot. The green beetles would live on and flourish, and their population would increase. Soon there would be few or none red beetles, and many green beetles.
