Irving lives in Appletown, and plans to drive along Highway 42, a straight highway that leads to Bananatown, located 143 miles e

ast and 45 miles north. Carol lives in Coconutville, located 98 miles east and 32 miles south of Appletown. Highway 86 runs directly north from Coconutville, and junctions with Highway 42 before heading further north to Durianville. Carol and Irving are planning to meet up at park-and-ride at the junction of the highways and carpool to Bananatown. Irving leaves Appletown at 8am, driving his usual 45 miles per hour. If Carol leaves Coconutville at 9am, how fast will she need to drive to arrive at the park-and-ride the same time as Irving?

Answer:

The speed at which Carol needs to drive to meet Irvin at Bananatown at exactly the same time is approximately 47.188 miles per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

The given information are;

The location of Bananatown from Appletown = 143 miles east and 45 miles north

The location of Coconutville from Appletown = 98 miles east and 32 miles south

Taking Appletown as the origin, we have;

The slope, gradient of highway 42 = 45/143

The equation of a line representing highway 42 is given as follows;

y - 0 = 45/143 × (x - 0)

y = 45/143·x

Therefore, at Coconutville, where x = 98, we have, y = 45/143 × 98 ≈ 30.84 miles north

Total distance north Carol has to drive to get to highway 42 = 32 + 30.84 = 62.84 miles

Total distance along highway 42 Carol will drive to get to Bananatown = √((143 - 98)² + (45 - 30.84)²) ≈ 47.175 miles

Total distance Carol drives to Bananatown = 47.175 miles + 62.84 miles ≈ 110.015 miles

The total distance Irvin needs to drive to arrive at Bananatown = √(143² + 45²) ≈ 149.91

The total distance Irvin needs to drive to arrive at Bananatown ≈ 149.91  miles

The time it takes Irvin to arrive at Bananatown = (149.91 miles)/(45 mph) ≈  3.33 hours

The time he arrives at Bananatown = 8 a.m. + 3.33 hours ≈ 11.33 a.m.

The time available for Carol to meet Irvin at Bananatown at exactly the same time = 11.33 a.m. - 9 a.m. = 2.33 hours

Therefore, the speed at which Carol needs to drive = (110.015 miles)/2.33 hour ≈ 47.188 miles per hour

The speed at which Carol needs to drive to meet Irvin at Bananatown at exactly the same time ≈ 47.188 miles per hour.

Answer:

Find the explicit from for the sequence t_n=t_{n-1}+4,t=6:

a_n=4n+2

This next question I edited a bit.  Your question just says find the four terms.  I'm assuming they meant the first four. I also changed the c to an a.

Find the first four terms of the sequence given by: a_n=n a_{n-1}-3,a_1=2:

a) 2,1,0.-3

You might want to read that second question again because there is errors in the question or things that don't really make sense.  I made my own interpretation of the problem based on my own mathematical experience.

Step-by-step explanation:

So your first question actually says that you can find a term by taking that term's previous term and adding 4.

So more terms of the sequence starting at first term 6 is:

6,10,14,18,....

This is an arithmetic sequence.  When thinking of arithmetic sequences you should just really by thinking about equations of lines.

Let's say we have this table for (x,y):

x  |   y

----------

1      6

2    10

3     14

4     18

So we already know the slope which is the common difference of an arithmetic sequence.

We also know point slope form of a line is y-y_1=m(x-x_1) where m is the slope and (x_1,y_1) is a point on the line.  You can use any point on the line. I'm going to use the first point (1,6) with my slope=4.

y-6=4(x-1)

y=6+4(x-1)    :I added 6 on both sides here.

y=6+4x-4     :I distribute here.

y=4x+2        :This is what I get after combining like terms.

So a_n=y and x=n so you have:

a_n=4n+2

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first four terms of this sequence will be given by:

a_1,a_2,a_3,a_4

a_1=2 so it is between choice a, c, and d.

a_n=na_{n-1}-3

To find a_2 replace n with 2:

a_2=2a_{1}-3

a_2=2(2)-3

a_2=4-3

a_2=1

So we have to go another further the only one that has first two terms 2,1 is choice a.

An ice cream cone has a diameter of 4.2 cm and a height of 11.5 cm. What is the volume of the cone? A. 18.6 cm³ B. 53.1 cm³ C. 2
777dan777 [17]

Answer:

B. 53.1 cm³

Explanation:

\sf volume \ of \ cone:  \dfrac{1}{3} \pi r^2h   \ \        \ \ (r \ is \ radius, \ h \ is \ height)

Here Given:

height: 11.5 cm

diameter: 4.2 cm

radius: d/2 = 4.2/2 = 2.1

Volume:

\sf \cdot \  \dfrac{1}{3} \pi r^2h

\sf \cdot \  \dfrac{1}{3} (3.14) (2.1)^2(11.5)

\sf \cdot \ 53.11 \ cm^3 ≈ \sf 53.1 \ (rounded \ to \ nearest \ tenth)
