A group of young women in Afghanistan continued to study literature in defiance of strict Islamic law by _____.
olga_2 [115]

A group of young women in Afghanistan continued to study literature challenging strict Islamic law by the Taliban.

Here is a quick explanation about the Taliban and their politics with women:

The Taliban is a political group that operates in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The militia originates in the tribes that live in the border between these two countries and was formed in 1994, after the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, that lasted from 1979 to 1989.

It is officially considered as a terrorist organization by Russia, the European Union and the United States.

The Taliban regime prevented women from working and had strict rules on women's education. In some cases, women were prevented from accessing public hospitals so that they would not be treated by male doctors or nurses. The women could not leave the house without men's escorts and they left only through the back door of the bus. Women who were widows or who did not have children were not considered by the state and often faced hunger.
