Assuming you want to factor, then you would use the factor by grouping method

x^2+4x + xy+4y

(x^2+4x) + (xy+4y)

x(x+4) + y(x+4)

(x+y)(x+4)

Therefore, x^2+4x + xy+4y factors to (x+y)(x+4)
