Vincent Oge was a wealthy man of mixed race that had an important role in the Haitian Revolution. Ogé wanted to fight for the men of color's privileges, specially the right to vote. He put pressure on the authorities in order to get the voting rights for all wealthy and free men of color.
The cartazes system was created in 1502 to control and enforce the Portuguese trade monopoly over a wide area in the Indian Ocean. It granted merchant ships protection against pirates and rival states.
