The answer is -40.

In order to get this answer you must first subtract 4 from -36, if you know the rules of integers then the next step will be easy. Finally once you subtract it you will get -40.

Subtract 4 on both sides

y = -36 - 4
y = -1(36+4)
y = -1(40)
y = -40
