A square of side length s lies in a plane perpendicular to a line L. One vertex of the square lies on L. As this square moves a

distance h along L, the square turns one revolution about L to generate a corkscrew-like column with square cross-sections.a) Find the volume of the column.
b) What will the volume be if the square turns twice instead of once? Give reasons for your answer.

Answer:

Part (A) The required volume of the column is s^2h.

Part (B) The volume be s^2h=\frac{s^2h}{2}+\frac{s^2h}{2}.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

It is given that the we have a square with side length "s" lies in a plane perpendicular to a line L.

Also One vertex of the square lies on L.

Part (A)

Suppose there is a square piece of a paper which is attached with a wire through one corner. As you blow it up it spins around on the wire.

This square moves a distance h along L, and generate a corkscrew-like column with square.

The cross section will remain the same.

So the cross section area of original column and the cross section area of twisted column at each point will be the same.

The volume of the column is the area of square times the height.

This can be written as:

s^2h

Hence, the required volume of the column is s^2h.

Part (B) What will the volume be if the square turns twice instead of once?

If the square turns twice instead of once then the volume will remains the same but divide the volume into two equal part.

s^2h=\frac{s^2h}{2}+\frac{s^2h}{2}

Hence, the volume be s^2h=\frac{s^2h}{2}+\frac{s^2h}{2}.

If a sample of 362 customers is taken from a population of 5530 customers,
inysia [295]

Using concepts of sample and population, it is found that the sample variance is representative of 362 and 5530 customers ages, option D.

------------------------

In sampling, the information is taken from a sample, and is used to estimate it for the whole population.

  • In this problem, we have a sample of 362 and a population of 5530 customers.
  • The sample variance s^2 is calculated from the sample, and used as an estimate for the population variance. Thus, it can be said that it represents both 362 and 5530 customers, and the correct option is D.

Find the area of the following shape.
ad-work [718]

Answer:

57 units^2

Step-by-step explanation:

First find the area of the triangle on the left

ABC

It has a base AC which is 9 units and a height of 3 units

A = 1/2 bh = 1/2 ( 9) *3 = 27/2 = 13.5

Then find the area of the triangle on the right

DE

It has a base AC which is 6 units and a height of 1 units

A = 1/2 bh = 1/2 ( 6) *1  = 3

Then find the area of the triangle on the top

It has a base AC which is 3 units and a height of 3 units

A = 1/2 bh = 1/2 ( 3) *3  = 9/2 = 4.5

Then find the area of the rectangular region

A = lw = 6*6 = 36

Add them together

13.5+3+4.5+36 =57 units^2

Finding the Median from a Dot Plot
MAXImum [283]

Answer:

median rainfall for highland storms = 18mm

median rainfall for lowland storms = 18mm

or

median rainfall for lowland storms = 17mm if the list of numbers is

2  4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32

Step-by-step explanation:

The median is the middle number of a sequence of ordered numbers.

The formula for the median is:

median = (n + 1 )/ 2

where n = total number of values

Note: the number that you find with this formula is the position. SO you have to go to the sequence of numbers and find the number that lies in that position.

Highland storms:

4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32

The numbers are already in ascending order so we can proceed.

n = 15

∴ median = (15+1)/2

                = 16/2

                = 8

The median is the umber in the 8th position

so, the median rainfall for highland storms is 18mm

Lowland storms:

4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32

The numbers are already in ascending order so we can proceed.

n = 15

∴ median = (15+1)/2

                = 16/2

                = 8

The median is the number in the 8th position.

∴ median rainfall for lowland storms is = 18mm

Unclear: if this is the list of numbers:

2  4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32

then the median would be:

n = 16

median = (16+1)/2

             = 17/2

             = 8.5

This means the median lies between the numbers in the 8th and 9th position.

∴ The median is =  (16 + 18)/2

                           = 34/2

                           = 17
