100 points! Formation of an Ion

Chemistry

Given the chemical formula Al2O3  and every oxygen ion (combined with an aluminum ion) has a charge of -2, the total negative charge is -2x3 = -6.

As Al2O3 is neutral, the total positive charge must be 6.  The charge of each aluminum ion is 6/2 = 3.

An uncharged aluminum atom must lose 3 electrons so that it will bond with oxygen.

\huge\bold {Answer}

Aluminum ions have a charge of +3. This means that the atoms have three more protons than electrons. In order to add electrons to aluminum ions, the purification process therefore requires a large amount of electricity.

Uncharged Aluminum atom must need to lose it's electrons,in order to form the bond with oxygen which has vacant orbitals

ion
atom that has a positive or negative charge because it lost or gained one or more electrons

chemical bond
the attractive force that holds atoms or ions together

ionic bond
a chemical bond in which one atom loses an electron and the other atom gains electrons to form ions

chemical formula
a combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance

covalent bond
bond formed by the sharing of electrons between atoms

How many grams of Ni are formed from 55.3 g of Ni2O3?<br><br> 2Ni2O3(s)⟶4Ni(s)+3O2(g)
Neko [114]

Answer:

39.2 g

Explanation:

  • 2Ni₂O₃(s) ⟶ 4Ni(s) + 3O₂(g)

First we <u>convert 55.3 grams of Ni₂O₃ into moles of Ni₂O₃</u>, using its<em> molar mass</em>:

  • 55.3 g ÷ 165.39 g/mol = 0.334 mol Ni₂O₃

Then we <u>convert 0.334 moles of Ni₂O₃ into moles of Ni</u>, using the <em>stoichiometric coefficients of the balanced reaction</em>:

  • 0.334 mol Ni₂O₃ * \frac{4molNi}{2molNi_2O_3} = 0.668 mol Ni

Finally we <u>calculate how much do 0.668 Ni moles weigh</u>, using the<em> molar mass of Ni </em>:

  • 0.668 mol Ni * 58.69 g/mol = 39.2 g

Which shows the rational expression written using the least common denominator?
Alexandra [31]

Answer:

The first one.

\frac{x + 1}{4x^{2} } and \frac{4(x + 1)}{4x^{2} }

Explanation:

When comparing two fractions with variables like this, it's important to get to the same denominator in order to compare apples with apples and then be able to do not only comparisons but also perform additions/subtractions.

Question is which denominator to use and how to reach it.

In this case, the question and the answer choices do the work for you.  The question asks which one is the LEAST common denominator, and the answers show denominators x² and 4x².  The smallest of these is x², however, we can't simplify the first fraction to get to the x² denominator, so we'll go for the 4x².

So, the first fraction has already the correct denominator (4x²), we just have to transform the second one.

We multiply it by 1, expressed in a different way.  Since we're multiplying by one, we're not affecting the value, just the way it looks.

Let's do it!, to get the denominator to go from x² to 4x², we need to multiply it by 4... so we'll multiply by 4/4 (which is 1, neutral for the multiplication).

\frac{x + 1}{x^{2} } * \frac{4}{4} = \frac{4(x + 1)}{4x^{2} }

And now you have both fractions on the same denominator, without having changed their value, just their looks
