A cone is placed inside a cylinder. The cone has half the radius of the cylinder, but the height of each figure is the same. The

cone is tilted at an angle so its peak touches the edge of the cylinder’s base. What is the volume of the space remaining in the cylinder after the cone is placed inside it?

Volume of cylinder = pi x r^2 x h
<span>Volume of cone = 1/3 x pi x r^2 x h
</span>radius of cone = 1/2 (r)
Remaining volume = Volume of cylinder - <span>Volume of cone
                               = </span>pi x r^2 x h - <span>1/3 x pi x (r/2)^2 x h
                               = </span><span>pi r^2  h - 1/4 pi r^2 h
                               = 3/4 (</span><span>pi r^2  h</span>)

What is the focus of the parabola given by -1/4(y+2)^2=(x-1)
AleksandrR [38]
\bf \textit{parabola vertex form with focus point distance}\\\\&#10;\begin{array}{llll}&#10;\boxed{(y-{{ k}})^2=4{{ p}}(x-{{ h}}) }\\\\&#10;(x-{{ h}})^2=4{{ p}}(y-{{ k}}) \\&#10;\end{array}&#10;\qquad &#10;\begin{array}{llll}&#10;vertex\ ({{ h}},{{ k}})\\\\&#10;{{ p}}=\textit{distance from vertex to }\\&#10;\qquad \textit{ focus or directrix}&#10;\end{array}\\\\&#10;-------------------------------\\\\

\bf -\cfrac{1}{4}(y+2)^2=(x-1)\implies (y+2)^2={-4}(x-1)&#10;\\\\\\\&#10;[y-(-2)]^2=-4(x-1)\quad &#10;\begin{cases}&#10;k=-2\\&#10;h=1\\&#10;4p=-4&#10;\end{cases}\implies 4p=-4\implies \boxed{p=-1}

so, is a horizontal parabola, the "p" distance is 1, however, we ended up with a negative value, that means, the parabola is opening to the left-hand-side, with a vertex at (1, -2), and its focus at 0, -2, like you see in the picture below, one unit to the left of the vertex.

How do you work these out with explanation please x
bixtya [17]
1. 2 (x + 3) = x - 4
2x + 6 = x- 4
2x - x = -4 - 6
x = -4 + -6 = -10.
x = 10
2. 4 (5x - 2) = 2 (9x + 3)
20x - 8 = 18x + 3
20x - 18x = 3 + 8
2x = 11
x = 11/2 = 5.5
x = 11/2 or 5.5

A bag contains 10 red marbles, 15 yellow marbles and 5 green marbles. What is the probability of drawing a red or green marble f
Volgvan
Probability =

             (number of ways it can come out the way you want)
divided by
             (total number of ways it can come out).

Total number of ways to draw a marble = 30 (marbles in the bag).

Number of ways it can succeed = 15 (number of red or green ones)

Probability = 15/30 = 1/2 = 50% .
