Why can't subscripts be changed in chemical formulas
valentina_108 [34]
In a chemical formula, subscripts indicate the elements' ratio. Changing the subscripts would change the identity of the chemical. For example CO2 = carbon DIoxide, but CO = carbon MONoxide.

Answer:

It's B  !

Explanation:

Are resonance structures needed to describe the structure hco2-
Marysya12 [62]
Resonance or mesomerism is applicable to structures that cannot be formed with a single bond alone. Thus, for the structure of HCO2, there can be 2 resonance structures. In each structure, the formal charges are

C=0;
C=0
Oxygen=0
C-O=-1
H=0

HCO2-'s structure is a mixture of the two resonance structures. Hope this helps.

What procedure could you use to test the effect of a catalyst on a reaction
lisov135 [29]
I am going to assume that the reaction occurs in water since that is the easiest procedure (let me know if I am not supposed to make this assumption).

1) get 2 beakers, the chemicals for the reaction, DI water, and the catalyst.
2) equal volumes and amounts of the water was placed into the 2 beakers.
3) some of the catalyst was added to beaker the second beaker.
3) equal amounts of the chemicals for the reaction was placed into the 2 beakers.
4) the two reactions were compared to see how the un-catalyzed reaction in beaker 1 was effected by the introduction of a catalyst in beaker 2.

I hope this helps.  Let me know in the comments if anything was unclear.
