3x - 2 = x + 1
2x = 3
x = 3/2
x = 1.5

3x - 2 = 3(1.5) - 2 = 2.5
or
x + 1 = 1.5 + 1 = 2.5

P = 4(2.5) = 10

perimeter of square is 10 cm so side of square = 2.5cm

The <em>total surface</em> area of the three figures are 702 square feet.

<h3>How to estimate the amount of metal needed to produce a given amount of figures</h3>

According to this problem, we are required to determine the amount of metal needed to build three pieces with the dimensions presented in the figure.

In this case, we need to estimate the <em>total</em> surface area (A_{T}), in square feet, required for the production of the three pieces, that is, the product of the number of pieces (<em>n</em>), no unit, and the surface area of each piece (<em>A</em>).

Now we proceed to calculate the total surface area:

A_{T} = n\cdot A

A_{T} = 3\cdot \left[(5\,ft)\cdot (8\,ft) + (2\,ft)\cdot (8\,ft)+(8\,ft)\cdot (7\,ft)+(3\,ft)\cdot (8\,ft) \\

+(5\,ft)\cdot (8\,ft)+2\cdot (3\,ft)\cdot (5\,ft) + 2\cdot (4\,ft)\cdot (2\,ft) + (3\,ft)\cdot (4\,ft) ]

A_{T} = 702\,ft^{2}

The <em>total surface</em> area of the three figures are 702 square feet. \blacksquare

Wanda placed $100 in a savings account that pays 2% simple interest per year. After 6 months Wanda made another deposit of $100.
STatiana [176]

Answer:

\$203.01

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The simple interest formula is equal to

A=P(1+rt)

where

A is the Final Investment Value

P is the Principal amount of money to be invested

r is the rate of interest

t is Number of Time Periods

in this problem we have

<em>After 6 months</em>

t=6/12=0.5\ years\\ P=\$100\\r=2\%=2/100=0.02

substitute in the formula above

A_1=100(1+0.02*0.5)

A_1=100(1.01)

A_1=\$101

<em>At the end of one year</em>

t=6/12=0.5\ years\\ P=A_1+\$100=\$101+\$100=\$201\\r=2\%=2/100=0.02

substitute in the formula above

A_2=201(1+0.02*0.5)

A_2=201(1.01)

A_2=\$203.01

There are some people on a train
Kitty [74]
<h3>Answer:  62</h3>

======================================================

Explanation:

18 people get off, and 21 get on

We can write the 18 as -18 to indicate a loss of 18 people. The 21 as +21 to mean we gained 21 people.

The net change is -18+21 = +3 or simply 3.

After the first stop, 3 more people are on the train compared to before reaching this stop.

If x is the number of people before the stop, then x+3 is the number of people after the stop. Set this equal to 65 and solve for x.

x+3 = 65

x = 65-3

x = 62 people were on the train to begin with.

-----------

Check:

62 people to start off

62-18 = 44 people after the 18 people get off

44+21 = 65 people after the 21 new people get on

The answer is confirmed.
