Answer:

CH_4 is not likely to have ionic bonds

Explanation:

Ionic bond is formed between a metal and a non metal.

NaCl, LiF and MgF_2 are examples in which we see metal bonded with a non-metal.

Na, Li, Mg are all metals and Cl, F are non metals.

CH_4 contains only non metals. Covalent bond is the bond present among non metallic compounds.

We can identify a bond as an ionic bond or a covalent bond based on the electronegativity values of the atoms present in it.

For example H_2 S

Hydrogen --> electronegativity value is 2.1

Sulfur --> electronegativity value is 2.5

∆E, the electronegativity difference is 2.5 - 2.1 = 0.4

So, It is a non polar covalent bond present in H_2 S

Examples :

The electronegative values of H is 2.1

F is 4.0

O is 3.5

N is 3.0

∆E value of HF Hydrogen bond is

4.0 - 2.1 = 1.9

∆E value of H2O Hydrogen bond is

3.5 - 2.1 = 1.4

∆E value of NH3 Hydrogen bond is

3.0 - 2.1 = 0.9

∆E value between 0.5 to 1.7 is a polar covalent bond

∆E value btween 0 to 0.4 is a non polar covalent bond

∆E above 1.7 is an ionic bond

Methane CH_{4} does not have ionic bonds. Because of the close value of electronegativity of the carbon and hydrogen atoms the electrons are shared forming covalent bonds.

Construct a three-step synthesis of trans-2-pentene from acetylene by dragging the appropriate formulas into the bins. Note that
adelina 88 [10]

Answer:

The three-step synthesis of trans-2-pentene from acetylene is as follows.

Step -1: Formation of higher order terminal alkyne on reaction with sodium acetylides with haloalkanes.

Step -2: Formation terminal alkyne to nonterminal alkynes.

Step -3: Formation of trans-pent - 2-pent-ene by reduction.

Explanation:

Synthesis of trans-pent-2-yne from ethyne takes place is mainly a three step synthesis which involves formation of higher order terminal alkyne on reaction with sodium acetylides with haloalkane. Second step involves the further alkylation of terminal alkynes to higher order nonterminal alkynes and the third step involves the formation of trans-2-ene by dissolving reduction method.

The chemical reaction of each step of chemical reactions is as follows.

A 20.0-liter flask contains a mixture of argon at 0.72 atmosphere and oxygen at 1.65 atmospheres. What is the total pressure in
GarryVolchara [31]

The total pressure of the flask is sum of partial pressures of the gases present in a mixture of gas

This is Dalton's law of partial pressures .'

say we have a mixture of "n" gases with respective pressure : P1, P2 ...Pn

total pressure of the gases = P1 +P2 + P3 + ...Pn = Ptotal

So in the given problem the total pressure of flask will be = 0.72+1.65 = 2.37 atm

What is the net ionic equation? (This is already balanced, just need the net ionic) 2CH3COOH(aq)+ Sr(OH)2(aq)----> Sr(CH3COO)
siniylev [52]
Net ionic equation should be like this :
CH3COOH(aq) + OH- --> CH3COO- + H2O(l)
According to the fact that acetic acid is too weal and non-ionized, put CH3COOH, Sr(OH)2 is not so strong but can dissolve therefore can ionize.
