HELP PLEASE! Robert needs to cut four shelves from a board that is 2.5 meters long. The second shelf is 18 centimeters longer th

an twice the length of the first shelf. The third shelf is 12 centimeters shorter than the first shelf. The remaining shelf is 4 centimeters longer than the first shelf. If Robert must use the entire 2.5 meter board for the shelves, what is the length of the second shelf?

Let us assume the length of the first shelf = x
Then
The length of the second shelf = 2x + 18
Length of the third shelf = x -12
Length of the fourth shelf = x + 4
The total length of the board = 2.5 meters.
                                              = ( 2.5 * 100) cm
                                               = 250 cm
Then we can write the equation as
x + 2x + 18 + x - 12 + x + 4 = 250
5x + 10 = 250
After dividing both sides of the equation by 5 we get
x + 2 = 50
x = 50 - 2
   = 48
Then
The length of the second shelf = 2x + 18
                                                 = 2(48) + 18
                                                 = 96 + 18
                                                 = 116
So the length of the second shelf is 116 cm.

What is (99/100)^101 times (100/99)^100?
sineoko [7]

Answer:

99/100

Step-by-step explanation:

First of all recall that

a^n\cdot b^n =(ab)^n

Now we we will try to apply that formula for a=99/100 and b=100/99.

First rewrite (99/100)^{101}=(99/100)\times (99/100)^{100}

Now

(99/100)\times (99/100)^{100}\times (100/99)^{100}\\=(99/100)\times ((99/100)\times (100/99))^{100}\\=(99/100)\times 1^{100}\\=(99/100)\times 1\\=99/100

Toby bought 8 hotdogs and 5 fries. It cost $34.00
ruslelena [56]

Answer:

Each hot dog = $3

Each french fry = $2

Step-by-step explanation:

First, lets define our variables:

x = Hotdog

y = fries

Next, you need to set up a cost equation for both Toby and Bernie:

8x + 5y = 34

2x + 6y = 18

Now, we need to isolate one of the variable:

2x + 6y = 18

2x = 18 - 6y

x = 9 - 3y

Next, we need to insert this equation back into the first equation (8x+5y = 34) to find the cost of y (fries):

8x +5y = 34

8 (9-3y) + 5y = 34

72 - 24y + 5y = 34

72 - 19y = 34

19y = 38

y or fries = $2

Finally, we need to find the cost of each hotdog by using the cost of fries ($2) in one of the formulas:

2x + 6y = 18

2x + 6(2) = 18

2x + 12 = 18

2x = 6

x or hotdog = $3

I hope this helps!

Two buses are moving towards each other, one at a speed of 40 mph and the other at a speed of 50 mph. How much closer to each ot
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

180 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

The are moving towards each other at 50 mph and 40 mph which is the same as 90 mph. They are moving 90 mph closer to each other every hour so in 2 hours it would be 180 miles.
