Length of side of new square is 17 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Step 1: Let the length of the side of the old square be x. Then length of side of new square = x + 3 and Perimeter of new square = 40 + 2x

Perimeter of a square = 4 × side

⇒ 4(x + 3) = 40 + 2x

⇒ 4x + 12 = 40 + 2x

⇒ 2x = 28

⇒ x = 14 inches

  • Step 2: Find length of side of the new square

⇒ x + 3 = 17 inches

To make it easier, move the equation around so you can find y easier. add 10x to both sides to get y = 10x + 4

Then plug in each value for x.

-2 -> -10*-2 + 4 = 24
-1 -> -10 *-1 + 4 = 14
0 -> -10*0 + 4 = 4
1 -> -10*1 + 4 = -6
2 ->  -10*2 + 4 = -16

1) the answer to the radical is x^3+6x^2+12x+ 8
2) simplify this : x^3+6x^2+12x+ 8 + 3 = 27, into
3) this : x^3+6x^2+12x+ 11 = 27
4)Subtract 27 from both sides
x^3+6x^2+12x -16= 0
5) Use cubic formula.
x = 0.884499
