Let x is number of girls going (x>0).
Since the bus cost 360, each of them paid: \frac{360}{x}
If they got 3 more, each would pay: \frac{360}{x+3}
According to statement:\frac{360}{x} - 6 = \frac{360}{x+3}
⇒(360 - 6x)(x+3) = 360x
⇒360x - 6x^2 +3*360 -18x = 360
⇒6x^2 + 18x - 3*360 = 0
⇒6(x-12)(x+15) = 0
⇒x = 12 (because x > 0)
Thus, 12 girls went.

Ten bagels and four muffins cost $13. Five bagels and eight muffins cost $14. How much does a bagel cost? How much does a muffin
morpeh [17]
<span>We are going to define two equations where b means bagels and m will be muffins, First equation: 10*b + 4*m = 13 Second equation: 5*b + 8*m = 14 From the second equation, we can isolate b: b = (14 - 8*m)/5 In the second equation 10*(14 - 8*m)/5 + 4*m = 13 2*(14 - 8*m) + 4*m = 13 28 - 16*m + 4*m = 13 28 -13 = 16*m - 4*m 15 = 12*m m = 15/12 = 1.25 Then b = (14 - 8*m)/5 = (14 - 8*1.25)/5 = 4/5 = 0.8 So one bagel costs $0.8 and one muffin $1.25</span>

A bedroom is 15 ft long and 12 ft wide. How much will it cost to carpet the room if carpeting costs $22 per square yard?
Helga [31]

Answer:

$1,320

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the area of the bedroom, you must multiply the length and the width. 15 multiplied by 12 is 180, so the area of the bedroom is 180 square feet. There are three feet in a yard, so you must divide the area of the bedroom in feet by 3 in order to get the area of the bedroom in yards. 180 divided by 3 is 60, so the area of the bedroom is 60 square yards. In order to find how much it will cost to carpet the room, you must multiply the area of the bedroom in yards by how much carpeting costs per square yard. 60 multiplied by 22 is 1,320, so it will cost $1,320 in order to carpet the room.

A force of 8 N makes an angle of π/4 radian with the y-axis, pointing to the right. The force acts against the movement of an ob
Grace [21]

Answer:

a) F= 4\sqrt{2} i + 4\sqrt{2} j

b) Θ=11.3

c) The work done is 20\sqrt{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

a) ||F||=8, α=π/4

Fx=||F||·sin(π/4)=8·\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

Fy=||F||·cos(π/4)=8·\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

F=Fx i + Fy j = 4\sqrt{2} i + 4\sqrt{2} j

b) We can find the value of Θ using the equation:

cos(Θ)=\frac{F.D}{||F||||D||}

where:

D= 3 i + 2 j

F=4\sqrt{2} i + 4\sqrt{2} j

The dot product is defined as the sum of the products of the components of each vector as:

F · D= (4\sqrt{2})*3+(4\sqrt{2})*2=20\sqrt{2}

||F||= 8

||D||= \sqrt{3^2+2^2} =\sqrt{13}

Hence:

Θ=arccos(\frac{20\sqrt{2} }{8\sqrt{13} })

Θ=arccos(0.981)

Θ= 11.3°

c) Work is equal to:

F · D= (4\sqrt{2})*3+(4\sqrt{2})*2=20\sqrt{2}=28.3

Other way of obtainig the work is:

||F||||D||cos(Θ)

where:

||F||= 8

||D||= \sqrt{3^2+2^2} =\sqrt{13}

Θ=11.3°

So,  ||F||||D||cos(Θ)=8×\sqrt{13}×cos(11.3°)=28.3

A soccer ball was kicked in the air and follows the path h(x)=−2x2+1x+6, where x is the time in seconds and h is the height of t
madam [21]

The ball will hit the ground at 2 seconds.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

The path of the ball = h(x)=−2x2+1x+6

Here,

x is the time while h is the height of ball.

When the ball will hit the ground, the height will become zero. Therefore,

h(x)=−2x2+1x+6

0 =−2x2+1x+6

or

2x2 -1x - 6 = 0

This is a quadratic equation, hence by applying quadratic equation formula:

x = \frac{-b +- \sqrt{b^{2} - 4ac }   }{2a}

here,

a = 2

b = -1

c = -6

Putting these values in formula, we get

x = \frac{-(-1) +- \sqrt{-1^{2} - 4.2.-6 }   }{2.2}

x = \frac{1 +- \sqrt{1 + 48 }   }{4}

x = \frac{1 +- \sqrt{49 }   }{4}

x = \frac{1 +- 7   }{4}

x = 2, -3/2

As the time cannot be negative. Therefore, the ball will hit the ground at 2 seconds.
