A hypothetical study concerned with estimating the amount of marijuana use per year among a teenage population obtained a sample

of 125 high school students. The average number of times per year a student used marijuana was 4.7, with a standard deviation of 2.9. Construct a 99% confidence level, what is the LOWER bound for the confidence interval

Answer:

Confidence interval 99%

4.0\leq\mu \leq 5.4

Step-by-step explanation:

In this case, we have to estimate a confidence interval (CI) with an unknown standard deviation of the population (we only known the s.d. of the sample).

The estimated standard deviation is

s_M=s/\sqrt{N}=2.9/\sqrt{125}=2.9/  11.18=0.26

For a 99% CI and degrees of freedom df=124, the t-statistic is t=2.616.

So the confidence interval is:

M-t*s_M\leq \mu\leq M+t*s_M\\\\4.7-2.616*0.26\leq\mu \leq 4.7+2.616*0.26\\\\4.7-0.68\leq\mu \leq 4.7+0.68\\\\4.0\leq\mu \leq 5.4

A carpenter took the following measurements: 3.4m, 10.25m, 20.2m, and 19m. How many does the sum of the measurements have ?
Simora [160]
So, I guessing the question is written wrong. The only thing that would make sense is "A carpenter took the following measurements: 3.4m, 10.25m, 20.2m, and 19m. How many SIGNIFICANT FIGURES does the sum of the measurements have?"

1. Add The Measurements
3.4m + 10.25m + 20.2m + 19.0m \\ = 52.85m
52.85 Has 4 Significant Figures, this is the more precise measurement

HOWEVER, the rules of Significant Figures states that when adding we must put our answer in the same amount of decimal places as the least one in our expression. So 3.4has 1 decimal place, 10.25 has 2, 20.2 has 2, and 19.0 has 1. So we must put our answer only to the tens place and not the hundredth as we have it. OUR SIG FIG ANSWER IS;

52.9m
This is considered less precise, for example 19 is just saying approximately 19, while 19.0 says this is exactly 19

Carla is renting a canoe. Canoe A costs $80 for 2 hours and Canoe B costs $110 for 4 hours. Canoe C costs $91.81 for 3.25 hours.
Harlamova29_29 [7]

Answer:

Canoe B is best canoe to choose

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Canoe A costs = $80 for 2 hours

Canoe B costs = $110 for 4 hours

Canoe C costs = $91.81 for 3.25 hours

Find:

Best canoe to choose

Computation:

Each hour cost;

Canoe A costs = $80 / 2 = $40 per hour

Canoe B costs = $110 / 4 = $27.5 per hour

Canoe C costs = $91.81 / 3.25 = 28.25 per hour

Canoe B is best canoe to choose
