Oh, that was Murray Wilson, when he ran for re-election to the board of directors
of his condo association.  He was thinking about the time he had cleared the
leaves out of the drain in the rec room during a heavy storm, and prevented a
major flood from engulfing the first 3 floors of his building.  Unfortunately for
Murray, nobody in the building was ever aware that he had done that, so his
slogan made no sense to anyone, and he lost that election.

On the other hand, <em><u>Woodrow</u></em> Wilson, the 28th president of the US, had a slogan
which, to the few people who knew Murray, sounded quite similar.  But it was not
the same slogan.  It was different, and it worked a lot better for Woodrow.

Woodrow Wilson was elected president in 1912.  World War 1 began in Europe in
1914, but when Wilson ran for re-election in 1916, the US had not entered the war
yet, and he ran on the slogan of "He kept us out of <em><u>War</u></em>".

He was re-elected, and he watched his campaign slogan suffer the same fate as
so many others before and since . . . The US entered WW-1 in 1917, only a few
months after Wilson was inaugurated for his second term.

Why was the Delian league originally formed
PSYCHO15rus [73]

The Delian League was formed so that the Greek city-states fight together against the Persians.

Explanation:

The Delian League was formed by the suggestion of Athens. The purpose of Athens was to fight the Persians even after the war officially ended. The Greek city-states accepted the proposal of Athens and they created the Delian League.

Athens though, despite being the one that initiated the formation, was actually the one that caused the crumbling of the Delian League. The reason was that Athens started to use the funds of the Delian League for its own purposes, so once the other city-states found out about this they got into conflict with Athens. Things escalated when Sparta got involved, with a war between Sparta and Athens emerging, known as the Peloponnesian War, which put an end to the Delian League.

2. What was the role of the senate in the Roman Republic?
Gre4nikov [31]

Answer:

In the times of the eraly monarchy, the Senate rose as an advisory council made exclusively of patricians. In 509 BC it had 300 members. After the abolition of the monarchy, the Senate was the advisory council of the consuls (there were two consuls, they highest magistrates). The Senate was a permanent body, the consuls held office only for one year.

In the early republic, the Senate - made of men of the social elites -continued to be an advisory council but it progressively won more powers. In the last two centuries of the republic, the Senate had much influence on domestic and foreign policies. It issued decrees that were respected; it controlled the state financial spending (a relevant power) and religious issues; the Senate appointed some high officials;  it held hearings for foreign ambassadors, distibuted the army legions, created provinces and decided on borders and territorial distribution.
